Sandee Calame, Principal

Rockdale Elementary School

Dear Ms. Calame,

It is with great pride that I recommend Katie Klohn for an assistant principal position at your
campus.
Katie Klohn has been employed with Hermann Sons Youth Camp for seven summers and has
spent the last two summers as the girls camp director. Hermann Sons Youth Camp is a not-forprofit residential youth camp for children ages 9 to 13.
Camp directors are responsible for the daily operation of camp, including the implementation of
the program and the supervision of campers and staff. The Riverside Girls Camp has
approximately 140 250 campers per week along with approximately 30 45 program staff
members per week, and Camp runs for seven one-week sessions and one half-week session. The
camp director is also responsible for the careful delivery of staff development at the beginning of
the summer and staff continuing education sessions each week.
Being a camp director is a very natural role for Katie. She exudes a love for working with
children and is always looking for ways to make events special.
Beyond her love for children, Katie is an excellent camp director because she works well with
others and knows the importance of Camp policies and how she represents the Hermann Sons
organization. Katie takes care of any improper behavior on Camp but is also fun and
approachable.
Katie builds excellent relationships with staff members. She plans ahead to find ways to boost
staff morale. It is normal for Katie to use her own resources to give the staff members something
special to encourage and inspire them. She also takes the time to write notes of appreciation to
staff members.
Katie is ultimately responsible for writing appraisals for approximately 90 individuals that she
supervises. This is a daunting task to complete while still taking care of all of her other duties,
but Katie puts great care and effort into the appraisals that she writes and reviews. She uses

specific examples to illustrate each of her points and works hard for the evaluations to be an
accurate reflection of each staff members time at Camp.
Another strong point of Katies is the way she interacts with parents. Katie knows to use parents
as a resource and is confident in her collaborations with them. She also does very well with
opening and closing ceremonies in front of the parents and campers.
Katie is very self-sufficient but is also not afraid to ask for help when needed. She interacts very
well with me and lets me know about any concerns that she may have.
Katies knowledge of and dedication to Camp make her a very valuable camp director. She has
been an asset to Hermann Sons Youth Camp and the positive impact that she has made is
undeniable.
Katies administrative experience through Camp will make her shine even brighter as a school
administrator. She has the ability to maturely consider all angles of a situation and evaluate the
larger picture of operations before making decisions. The only negative part of her becoming an
assistant principal will be that students will miss out on having her as a teacher in the classroom.
Katie Klohn is an exceptionally special individual who will touch and inspire lives regardless of
the position that she holds. I highly recommend her for your campus as an assistant principal. For
further recommendation, please do not hesitate to contact me at 830-995-3223 or

Sincerely,

Jennifer Cernosek
Executive Camp Director
