S1 Evidence/Strengths
Rory: Joe has created a grammar lesson focusing on pronouns which included
many examples and a handout. This will tie into the personal narrative unit. He has
worked with me in developing weekly lesson plans and is knowledgeable of the
common core standards. Joe has done a good job of following the Oakland Schools
units and has implemented various lessons involving writer?s notebook. Joe has also
initiated several lessons revolving around the culture of thinking model Clarkston
encourages.
S2 Evidence/Strengths

Rory: Joe clearly communicates his expectations to the class for each lesson. He
tries to have a short conversation with each student each day. He has used a variety
of styles to reach individual students and has done a great job of differentiating his
instruction. He has used personal stories to demonstrate the purpose of a lesson
and has used multiple thinking routines such as ?think-pair-share?, group activities,
visual based handouts, and lessons incorporating technology.
S3 Evidence/Strengths
Rory: Joe has included the days learning objective on the board for the students to
see. Joe continuously reviews the students? grades and giving students options that
?go beyond? the traditional guidelines of an assignment. Joe has assessed the
students? learning of Romeo and Juliet with a quiz at the end of each act. He has
also used their writer?s notebooks as a means of practicing the lesson for the day.
Joe has incorporated the use of computers several times into lessons. At this time
we are still in the middle of two big units and the major assessments have not been
completed yet.
S4 Evidence/Strengths
Rory: Joe has been able to get participation from everyone in the class. He calls on
different students and has been able to get quite a few students to open up and
share their ideas. He does a great job of modeling responses and uses personal
experiences to encourage participation.
S5 Evidence/Strengths
Rory: Joe has helped from the beginning of the year to get the classroom set up.
We have instituted several organizational procedures to help kids and parents
understand what is being taught and where to find information. For example, we
have an area of the room where extra handouts are located, supplies, etc. He has
been willing to use the technology that is available to us. Joe does use examples of
technology such as social media that is easily relatable to the students.
