1-1.3 Identify various natural resources (e.g., water, animals,

plants, minerals) around the world.
1-1.4 Compare the ways that people use land and natural
resources in different settings around the world.rea
Describe the lessons activities and content to provide a clear overview of the lesson.

Description and
Background Information

At the end of this lesson the students will know what natural
resources are and how they can be used. Anticipatory Set we will
go over the How We Use Earths Resources PowerPoint. For
Teacher Modeling, I teacher will introduce the students to natural
resources. I will explain that natural resources are materials from
the Earth that are used to support life and meet peoples needs. I
will further explain to the students that any natural substance
that humans use can be considered a natural resource. Oil, coal,
natural gas, metals, stones, and sand are natural resources.
Other natural resources are air, sunlight, soil and water. Animals,
birds, fish and plants are natural resources as well. Natural
resources are used to make food, fuel and raw materials. For
guided practice, my students and I will display the Natural
Resources Chart to the students. I will explain that this graphic
organizer will help them to easily identify what natural resources
are used to make certain items. I will have the students to identify
the natural resource and an object that is created using it, and I
will record student responses in the chart. For independent

practice, the students will complete a Natural Resource--Animals, Plants, Water, and Land Graphic Organizer. For closure,
we did pass the stick were students quickly and verbally share
one thing they learned in the class today by passing the stick to
different classmates. The students were also assigned
homework.

Lesson Objectives

What will students be able to do at the conclusion of this lesson? Make sure that your
objective(s) are measurable.

The students will be able to identify and describe natural

resources, and explain how people use natural resources, with
95% accuracy.

Varying Objectives for

Individuals Needs
(Differentiated Instruction-content;
Process; Product; or Environment)

How will you vary these objectives for students who do not understand the material?
How will you vary these objectives for students who have already mastered the concept?
How will you vary these objectives for students who are presently learning English?

The students that do not understand the material will be grouped

together, so the teacher can help them. The students that have
already mastered the concept will be able to help the students
that do not understand or move on to the next topic. The
students that are presently learning English, their worksheets will
be modified; they will not get as many problems as the other
students.
Why is it important for the students to learn this content?

Statement of Purpose

Materials and Resources

Anticipatory Set

It is important to learn this content, so students will know the

importance of natural resources.
What materials and supplies are needed to help your students achieve the stated
objectives? What will the teacher need? What will the students need? What other
resources are needed? Will you use resource speakers?

STAR board, internet, laptop, website, dry ease markers & board,
pencils, and SC Social Studies textbooks are materials used to
help students achieve the stated objectives. I need STAR board,
internet, laptop, lumens, Social Studies Pacing Guide, SC Social
Studies Textbook, and the Natural Resource---Animals, Plants,
Water, and Land Graphic Organizer sheet. The students will
need their Social Studies Book, pencils, markers and crayons,
and their Natural Resource Sheet.
What will you do to motivate the students and get their attention? What is the hook
that will serve as a focus for the lessons activities?

We will go through the How We Use Earths Resources

PowerPoint.

Part II: IMPLEMENTATION

How will you find out what students already know about this topic?

Pre-assessment

I asked the students what are natural resources?

What will you do to show students what is expected?

Teacher Modeling or
Demonstration

I will explain to the students that today they will be learning about
natural resources. I will introduce the students to natural
I will
explain that all of the food that people eat comes from plants or
animals. Natural resources such as coal, natural gas and oil
provide heat, light and power. Natural resources also are the raw
materials for making products that we use every day from our
toothbrush and lunch box to our clothes. We will choral read
student text pages 156-159 in our social studies textbook, and
discuss what was read.
What will we do together as they learn how to succeed at the new task?

Guided Practice

Checking for
Understanding

Natural Resources Chart

I will display the Natural Resources Chart to the students. I will
explain that this graphic organizer will help them to easily identify
what natural resources are used to make certain items. I will have
the students to identify the natural resource and an object that is
created using it. I will record student responses in the chart.
What questions will you ask to determine if students understand so far? What techniques
or strategies will be used to determine if students understand so far?

I went around to see whether the students were listing the right
natural resources under Animals, Plants, Land, and Water on
their graphic organizers.
What will students do by themselves to show that they have internalized the knowledge?

Independent Practice

Closure

The students completed their Natural Resource---Animals, Plants,

Water, and Land Graphic Organizer

How will you conclude the lesson and relate it to future experiences? How will you wrap
up the lesson to reinforce concepts taught during the lesson?

Pass the StickHave the students quickly and verbally share one
thing they learned in the class today by passing the stick to
different classmates.
What will students do to demonstrate what they have learned?

Assessment
(Give a description and attach
to lesson plan)

Students had to tell me at least one natural resource we talked

about today. Their assessment will be next week.

Extension Activities

What can students do at home or in the classroom to apply the knowledge or skills? How
could you use your colleagues or community agencies to improve student performance?

Natural Resources Activity

Students had to make a flip book about natural resources.
How will you use technology to assist students with learning the concepts? What technology will you
use to enhance the delivery and comprehension of your content?

Technology

Connection Across the

Curriculum

The We Use Earths Resources PowerPoint, assists students with

learning the concepts. To make sure that the students have
comprehended what was being taught I use the STAR board to
have students come up and draw different natural resources.
How will you connect this lesson with other content areas across the curriculum? Include the
content areas as well as the arts, PE and Health.

PE- the teacher may ask the students to use their bodies to make
the different natural resources.
Art- The students will be able to draw the different natural
resources.
ELA- The students will be able to read and comprehend
information about the different natural resources.
Music-The students will be able to make a song or rap about the
different natural resources.
Science-The students will be able to identify natural resources
that are used to help plants grow.

What would you change when teaching this lesson again?

Suggestions for
Improvement

I wouldnt just use the school; I would have one group of
