Q2) An oil of viscosity 5 poise is used for lubrication. The shaft diameter is 0.5m
& rotates at 200rpm. Find power lost in oil for a sleeve of length 100mm.The
thickness of oil is 1mm. (10marks)

A dash pot 10cm diameter & 12.5cm long slides vertically down in a 10.05cm
diameter cylinder. The oil filling the annular space has a viscosity of
0.80poise.Find the speed with which the piston slides down if load on the piston
is 10N. (10 marks)
Q3) A u-tube differential manometer containing mercury is connected on one
side to pipe A containing oil (sp gr 1.6) under a pressure of 120kpa, & on other
side to pipe B containing carbon (sp gr 0.8) under a pressure of 200kpa. The pipe
A lies 2.5m above pipe B & mercury level in the limb communicating with pipe A
lies 4m below pipe A. find difference in the level of mercury in the two limbs.
Assume sp gravity of mercury as 13.6. (10 marks)
