Languages: We will be investigating the key

features of myths, legends and fables.


We will be writing our own versions of myths,
legends and fables, using inspiration from our
reading. We will how learn to create powerful
imagery in poetry and vivid descriptions in our
imaginative writing about mythological sea
creatures.
We will continue to use the VCOP approach, Big
Spelling and writing targets to improve our written
work.

P5-7 Class : Term 4 /2015


Maths: Algebra and data handling :

We will be learning how to choose the best strategy for


solving mental and written calculations including equations and word problems. Look out for
chunking, grid methods and jumping number lines as we re-visit these strategies. ! We will be
discussing the most efficient method to choose for a particular problem.
In practical maths we will be learning how to display data in a clear way using a suitable scale,
creating tables, charts, diagrams and graphs, making effective use of technology to do this.

HWB This term provides many opportunities to

make friends and be part of a group in a range of


situations.
Through team games; rounders, cricket and games
from around the world we will learn about the
importance of participation, inclusion, strategy and
encouragement. In athletics we will be trying to
improve our individual performance in track and
field events.

Sciences: We will be exploring marine species,

ecosystems and habitats from the shallows to the


deep sea. We will be finding out how human
actions negatively affect the ocean and ocean life.
We will be taking part in marine surveys in the
tidal zone this will include investigations into
plastic pollution along our coastline.

Social Studies:

We will be learning about


seawater, its movements and how these
movements influence local weather conditions as
well as the global climate. We have a three day
project with David Hunter (Eden Court Outreach)
on Scottish history through drama and film.

Expressive Art

In art we will be carrying out 3D work using


papier mch, clay and mod roc.
In drama workshops with David Hunter we will
be creating and adapting different roles,
experimenting with movement, expression and
voice and using theatre arts technology.
In our weekly recorder lessons we will be
learning about pitch, melody, rhythm, and
musical notation.

Curriculum Areas

RME:

We will be investigating and reflecting


upon biblical and other Christian stories,
with Mr Mann. We will be finding out
about some creation stories from other
world religions.

Technologies

We will be making 3D sculptures


from the marine environment both real and
mythical.
In data handling we will be learning how to use
spreadsheets and present data using a variety of
computer generated graphs using the excel
programme.
