Media production exercise no 1 realisation

Lighting.
Provide a detailed explanation of how the completed exercise realises the stated aim of the
exercise. The explanation should outline the extent to which the aim was realised. Also indicate
what you have learnt that is relevant to the production of your SAT.

After taking a series of photographs using natural light I could understand what type of impact what
type of light has on distinctively creating a style within a photograph. During the process of
photographing my subjects I was able to quickly understand the nature of natural lighting. In this
instance, due to the weather lighting was constantly changing from a diffused clouded source of
sunlight to a direct harsh source of sunlight. It was an overcast day and every few moments would
this light be transforming from soft to hard or harsh. According to my unedited outcomes, the style
of images that relied on the harsh, direct source of light produced a really warm and delightful
essence to the overall image whereas when the clouds diffused the sunlight it produced soft lighting
and the style of the photographs became complete opposite. Cooler colours were presented and
exposed a more dramatic and powerful essence. A warmer photograph with a delightful presence is
unsuitable to allowing me to create a dark, dramatic style that I want to achieve therefore the
qualities presented in the diffused lighting were exception to incorporate into my photographs. The
cold, cool temperatures that were supposedly associated with this type of lighting enabled room for
a more dramatic look that implied a darker essence to the photo. This is basis of lighting would act
as a background to my subject which was to tell a story that implanted a rather dramatic, dark,
moody style. This style could adapt to effectively further displaying an intense outcome that would
result in perfecting the style that I want to achieve in my final. I didnt ever fully understand the
impact light really had on style until this stage in my production. Under the conditions of this, I will
take fourth what I have learnt and apply it to my final production. This literally means that my source
of natural lighting will have to be able to deliver a sense of diffused lighting so I can support my
intentions of developing a distinct dark and dramatic style. With such discover in style, it was
quickly adapted to what type of mood was presented in the photographs. Mood is very closely
associated with style to an extent and in this instance, the darker tones, and absence of direct
harsh light implies that dramatic moods have been developed by this practice. I believed the most
significant thing I have learnt from this that will advance me when production time comes is most
probably planning for the right day in which will display the most naturally diffused type of light in
which should enable me to develop a more dark, dramatic and almost isolated style in my
photographs furthering my productions final outcome. When it came down to the technical side of
things it became to much fiddling and very time consuming. Using a monopod kept things steady
however it made things harder as I was restricted to putting it up and down quick enough without
missing certain details although it allowed me to keep stabilised it did hold me back from essentially
capturing certain points that I didnt want to miss, how relevant this will realisation will be to my
production later, is very slight.
