Internship Coordinator Ernst & Young Global Limited Suite 2000 Dallas, TX
Dear Ms. Kennedy:
This letter of application is for the Summer 2014 Assurance External Audit Intern position that is offered in Tulsa through your Tulsa, Oklahoma office. I have been pursuing an auditing position with EY since I was a sophomore and learned about your company through the Wall Street Journal, information sessions, meeting with your recruiters, and even through my professor, Dr. Herrmann. Naturally drawn to learning more about globalization of business, I am interested in EYs international presence in countries across the world, especially in Europe and Asia. Through my passion for accounting and international travel, desire for ethical business practices especially in todays society, and previous experience in the fields of accounting and finance, I know I would be a great candidate for this position. During this last summer, I got the opportunity to work at Zeeco, Inc. in Tulsa as their accounting and finance intern who eventually began to work directly under the CEO, CFO, and Director of Special Projects, along with the Controller and Assistant Controller. The beginning of my internship was a crash course of the companys accounting practices, a short how-to on SQL, Solomon, and Crystal reporting services, and finally taking responsibility over a few of Zeecos customer orders. During the latter part of the summer, the CFO asked me to develop a financial dashboard. The project taught me more about accounting than any classes I have taken thus far because I had physical accounts to work with and had to present their information and relationships. The project presented three main gauges that drilled down to smaller gauges: one for sales orders, accounts receivables, and accounts payable. I also developed a greater understanding of program writing and data mining since I worked very closely with Zeecos IT department; on top of taking my college courses including finance, accounting, and MIS classes. The importance of the dashboard project is very relatable to the world of Audit. I had to take a lot of time to ensure that the information I was presenting on the dashboard was reliable, timely, and free of fraud. The executives were relying on this dashboard and the information it presented to view the progress on the company and make better fiscally responsible decisions for the present and the future. I also had to work with many different people from different departments to ensure that the project was completed. Every day EYs employees are tasked with working hand in hand with the customer to get a thorough audit. Working with all kinds of people and working both in teams and alone are all skills a great Auditor needs to have. Outside of the internship, I am a well-rounded student and am involved in many leadership positions on campus and in my fraternity, as presented in my attached resume. I love being active and hate a sedentary mentality. I think that is also why I am drawn to the position at EY because a lot of an auditors tasks take place at the job site. In conclusion, a position at EY this summer would be a great experience for the goals I would like to accomplish in my life. I truly believe I would be a great fit at EY because I have crucial prior experience in industry accounting, a passion to present ethical business reports, and a desire to work abroad. Over the summer I also talked a little bit with an intern at EY Tulsa and she passed along my resume to Rachel Herrmann. Rachel Herrmann told me that there were positions also open in Dallas and Wichita, these are two other locations that I would preference. Please let me know if there is anyway for me to apply for positions at these other locations. Thank you for your time and consideration for my request to work for a great corporation like EY. Sincerely, Charlie Welch
