LESSONSUMMARY/OVERVIEW

The goal of this lesson is for students to develop their own project to either raise awareness about poverty or develop an
organization, fundraiser, project, program, etc. to help "pulverize" poverty. The teacher will first have students view the video
from Poverty Resolutions on YouTube. This will help students to brainstorm ideas for their main projectdesigning their own
poverty project. Afterwards, the teacher should ask students to list various issues that people in poverty face and list the
answers contributed on the board (these answers will help students to become focused on what problems from poverty they
would like to solve or bring awareness to). Students will then break into small groups and decide first, where they want to
concentrate their help (locally, nationally, globally, combination, etc.). After this has been decided they will be responsible for
designing a poster advertising their program or project. On this poster they must include the name of their project, their
mission, how they will go about accomplishing their mission, and what the outcomes will be during and/or after the project has
been completed. Once all groups have completed their posters, they will be responsible for presenting them to the class.
Teachers should encourage their students to actually go through with their projects to make them happen!
