Transformations

1. Solvent, big problem (especially with chromatograph)

2. INGTP can be 0 because compounds with INGTP values assumed to be
soluble in water. However, the solid form of a compound can still be toxic
(althorugh this wasnt reflected in the INGTP value).
Some risks are not represented in the LCA.
3. Mass of a compound greatly affects impact.
Eg. Compound might not be severely toxic but if used in large amounts,
index be gratly magnified relative to highly toxic compounds used in
smaller amounts.
4. Priority given to certain indices can significantly affect which route is
chosen as the greenest.
Carcinogenity also not taken into account in the 9 factors.
PER is incomplete, also only organics.
PER with toxicity is worse than PER without toxicity.
Some safety issues are ignored -> flammability not incorporated into 9
factors.
Not taking into account effects of manufacturing the reagents->cradle to
gate is better.
5. Many other factors that can be added to the LCA, such as carcinogenicity
or a safety factor, scale up, eutrophication potential.
6. Often purification step steps have a larger impact on the greenness of a
transformation than synthesis itself.
7. E and AE dont tell the full story, pretty random when compared to the 9
indices.
8. Safety of workers, operators not covered
9. ? availability of information.
10.What chemical hits the environment.
11.Threshold level of concern (weeks, months not important).
