Conclusions

Georgia Heard in her book, The Revision Toolbox: Teaching Techniques That Work
(2006), discusses four types of conclusions: surprise, summation, image, and emotional
statement.

Surprise
He looked at her and said, Elizabeth, you are a mess! You smell like
ashes, your hair is all tangled and you are wearing a dirty old paper bag.
Come back when you are dressed like a real princess.
Ronald, said Elizabeth, your clothes are really pretty and your hair
is very neat. You look like a real prince, but you are a bum.
They didnt get married after all.

Emotional Statement
The rest of the year became an odyssey of discovery and adventure for
the little girl. She learned to love school. I know because that little girl was
me, Patricia Polacco.
I saw Mr. Faulkner again some thirty years later at a wedding. I
walked right up to him and introduced myself. At first he had difficulty
placing me. I told him who I was, and how he had changed my life so many
years ago.
He hugged me and asked me what I did for a living. Why, Mr.
Faulkner, I answered, I make books for children . . . Thank you, Mr.
Faulkner. Thank you.
