Activity: Job Readiness Hard Skills Unit- Lesson #2: Job Application
Grade(s): 11

Time: 30-45 minutes

Learning Objective(s):
1. Students will understand how to fill out a job application and then discuss the process.
Materials: Computer Lab; Job Application Presentation; Sample Job Application- Online &
Paper
Procedure:
1. Students will meet with counselor in the computer lab or use their own laptop for this
lesson.
2. Discussion will begin by asking students who has and who has not filled out a job
application at this time. Students can share a few tidbits if they have about what their
experience was.
3. Counselor will present information through a presentation on the purpose of a job
application. Topics address will be what the purpose of an application is, tips for completing
an application and how to answer tricky questions, and how to fill out an online application,
which will be demonstrated on the projector.
4. Students will be provided with a paper application, as well as a practice online application,
and will be able to choose completing one or the other for practice. Students will be provided
with 15 to 20 minutes (which will more than likely not be enough time to get it fully
completed, but mostly) and class discussion will occur about the application and what things
were easy or difficult.
5. The counselor will also ask the students what information will be important to have on
hand when going into a business or sitting down at a computer to complete an application.

Plan for Evaluation: How will each of the following be collected?

Process Data: All student in Grade 11 will participate in this Unit- Lesson 2 of 4. Counselor
will take note of students in attendance per class.
Perception Data: Knowledge: Percentage of students who can successfully locate a job
application online or know how to pick one up in a place of employment. Skills: Percentage
of students who can successfully complete an application.
Outcome Data: Increased ability to complete a job application successfully.
Follow Up: Students will continue to search for employment and obtain job applications to
complete in relation to their expected career. This can help them prepare for completing
applications professionally after graduating from high school or college.
