    TheLesbian,Gay,Bisexual,Transgender,Queer(LGBTQ)undocumentedcommunityintheU.S.
    continuestosufferfromtheexpandedcriminalization,incarceration,andwithdrawalofrightsresulting
    fromdragnetpolicingandimmigrationenforcementpolicies.Further,wecontinuetobeanegotiating
    pieceformainstreamimmigrantrightsandLGBTQorganizations,andourlivesarenottobe
    negotiated.

    April5,2014markedarecordoftwomilliondeportationsundertheObamaAdministration.Weknow
    deportationisnottheanswertoabrokenimmigrationsystem,whent
    hereare82countriesthatmakeit
    illegaltobeLGBTQ
    .Often,LGBTQimmigrantscometotheU.S.seekingasafehavenfromstructural
    violence,criminalization,persecutionanddiscriminationintheirhomecountries.Othershavegrown
    upintheU.S.andlivewithongoingfearofdeportationandfamilyseparationasaresultofour
    unresolvedimmigrationstatus.Manydonotqualifyunderthecurrentdeferredactionprograms(i.e.,
    DACA,DAPA)duetothecriminalizationweexperienceasmarginalizedmembersofsocietypushed
    intosurvivalwork.

    Thisviolence,persecutionanddiscriminationisnotonlyhappeninginoureverydaylivesbutalso
    followingmanyofourcommunitymemberstotheinsideofImmigrationandCustomEnforcement
    (ICE)andDepartmentOfHomelandSecurity(DHS)detentionfacilities.LGBTQimmigrantsareoften
    placedindetentionfacilitiesthatmisgenderthem,allow/fosterphysicalandsexualabuse,andignore
    verbalandphysicalharassmentfrombothotherdetaineesanddetentionguards.Suchisthecasefor
    NicollHernandezPolanco,atransgenderwomanfromGuatemala,whountilyesterdaywasbeing
    detainedintheallmalewingofICEsFlorenceServiceProcessingDetentionfacilityinFlorence,
    Arizona.

    Nicollwaspatteddown68timesadaybymaleguards,whoNicollreportedwouldgropeher
    breastsandbuttocks,makeoffensivesexualcommentsandgestures,andsometimespullherhair.In
    additiontophysicallyharassingNicoll,ICEstaffroutinelyverballyabusedher.Shewascalledstupid
    andthewomanwithballsinfrontofotherdetainedimmigrants.
    ICEandDHSareincapableof
    protectingourLGBTQcommunityfromthisabuse.Detentioncentersarenottheanswertoabroken
    immigrationsystemnomatterwhatpolicyisenforcedorwhatalternativesaresetinplace,detention
    willneverbethesolutionforourcommunity.Detentionisinhumanenomatterwhatformittakes!

    FamiliaTransQueerLiberationMovement,CAImmigrantYouthJusticeAlliance(CIYJA),
    GetEQUAL,Juntos,OrangeCountyImmigrantYouthUnited(OCIYU),ArizonaQueer
    UndocumentedImmigrantProject(AZQUIP),ArcoirisLiberationTeam,theTransgenderLawCenter
    (TLC),andtheTransLatin@CoalitionaredemandingthatICEandDHSimmediatelyreleaseall
    LGBTQidentifiedindividualsindetentioncenters,haltdeportationsofallLGBTQidentified
    individuals,andimmediatelyproviderelieffortheLGBTQundocumentedcommunity.Asgrassroots
    organizations
    wewillcontinuetofightuntilallourdemandsaremetandallofourmigrantcommunity
    isfree.
    Thisiswhyweasthe#Not1MoreLGBTQDetention&DeportationCampaigncommitto
    demandingfullliberationwithoutcompromisingourbasichumanrights.
