COMMONLY USED CLICHD BUSINESS EXPRESSIONS:

1. FYI The overused acronym meaning For Your Information, has become such
an annoyance to hear uttered (writing FYI is sometimes useful). Sometimes, FYI
actually means Fornicate You, Idiot. (Fornicate is replaced with a common
expletive.) It becomes a little more palatable to hear someone say FYI when
you think of it in that context. The replacement phrase leaders should use:
nothing (uttering FYI adds no value and does not need to be replaced just
stop saying it).

2. Its gone viral -Spreading quickly, like a disease. Stop kidding yourself by
overusing the term. Use popular or highly marketable instead.
3. Do more with less - "Do more of what with less of what? At its worst, this stale
phrase is a corporate euphemism for, 'Do more work with less pay,' or 'Work
smarter,' as though the listener is not already doing so." Instead, be specific,
make your argument, and say exactly what you mean.
4. It is what it is- Not only can this phrase sound flippant and resigned, but what is
"it?" Instead say, "We can't change the fact that; therefore, I recommend..."
5. Lets circle back- This phrase is corporate lingo for "Let's discuss this issue at a
later time." So, just say that instead. This would also mean lets go back to what
I was talking about.
6. Lets put our game faces on- Get serious.
7. Paradigm shift- This term is overused corporate jargon from the 1990s. Instead
say, "Fundamental change," "major difference," "critical adjustment," a major
change.
8. Low-hanging fruit- Please don't refer to a prospect or customer as 'fruit' ready
to be effortlessly picked". "Instead say, 'It's easier to sell to these customers
because...'" It would also mean something so easy it should be done first, or an
idea so obvious, more thought is required.
9. Give 110% Our problems with this phrase are both the impossibility of giving
110% and the sheer belief that somehow, if you could actually give 110%, that
this would be good enough. Why stop at 110%? The replacement phrase leaders
should use: Do Your Best.
10. Were data-driven- Facts are important. We try not to make decisions by the
seat of our pants. When possible, we try to base them in facts.
