UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:


Sexuality and Family Life
LESSON OBJECTIVE:

Given a list of sexual behaviors, the student will list two long-term and two short-term effects for each behavior.

STANDARDS ADDRESSED:

Standard 6.10: The student will identify short-term and long-term effects of sexual harassment and date rape.

ISTE Standard 4: Research and information fluency. D. Process data and report results.
MATERIALS:
Pencil
List of sexual behaviors
Smart Board
Computer with Internet access and Microsoft Word
BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:
Students will demonstrate a clear understanding of how sexual behaviors have long and short-term effects.
Academic language is not addressed in IDT 3600.
This lesson is a continuation of Standard 6.8.
We will refer to this lesson occasionally until the final exam.
Students who have not mastered the objective will have an opportunity to ask questions in the next class period
from the homework.
PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:
Introduction:
Have the students write out on a sheet of paper what they think a sexual behavior
is.

Students will compare with a partner after they write their definition.

Procedures:

Prior to the Lesson (10 minutes):

Teacher Procedures
Have students compare their definitions with the class to see how many
know what a sexual behavior is.
Student Procedures
Give immediate feedback as to why each person wrote what the believe a
sexual behavior is.

The Lesson (40 minutes):

Teacher Procedures
1. Have students read a section of the chapter out loud
2. Discuss key points throughout the chapter.
3. Hand out a list of sexual behaviors.
4. Discuss the difference in long-term and short-term effects.
5. Have students get on a computer with Microsoft Word.
6. Create a table with 3 columns and 4 rows.
7. The first column will have the name of sexual behavior.
8. The second will list a long-term effect.
9. The third column will list a short-term effect.
10. Have at least 2 long-term effects and 2 short-term effects.
11. If it doesnt have one or the other, simply put N/A.
12. Once finished, print a copy, and turn it in.
Student Procedures
1. Students will read a section of the chapter out loud.
2. Give feedback on key points in the sections.
3. Study the list of sexual behaviors.
4. Understand the difference in long-term and short-term effects.
5. Get on a computer with Microsoft Word.
6. Create a table with 3 columns and 4 rows.
7. The first column will have the name of the sexual behavior.
8. The second column will have a long-term effect.
9. The third column will have a short-term effect.
10. If a behavior doesnt have one or the other, simply put N/A.
11. Once finished, print a copy, and turn it in.

After the Lesson (10 minutes)

1. Group them into 3s or 4s to compare different effects to sexual behaviors.
2. Have the students write a paragraph about what they have learned.
Student Procedures
1. Compare different effects of sexual behaviors with a group of 3 or 4
2. Write a paragraph about what has been learned.

Closure:
3 or 4 students will volunteer to share what they have learned in this section.
