Assessment Tools: Pre, Post, and Instructional

1) Unit contains pre- and post-assessments and items are aligned with
goals and objectives.
Pre-Assessment
Included 10 questions totaling 15 points. These pre-tests
were taken, and then peer graded to offer immediate feedback.
The questions on the pre-assessment align with content
standards as well as the goals and objectives for the unit.
Post-Assessment
Included the 10 pre-assessment questions as well as an
additional 36. This summative assessment consisted of 25 multiple
choice, 5 short answer, 10 fill-in-the-blank, 3 essay questions, and 3
bonus questions.
The questions on the post-assessment align with content
standards as well as the goals and objectives for the unit.
2) Pre- and post-assessments contained the exact same questions,
with additional questions on the summative post-assessment.
3) A variety of assessment tools were utilized including, traditional
formative, transformative, and summative assessments. A mix of
traditional and authentic assessment was used on the summative
assessment. Students participated in peer grading, self-evaluation,
tickets out the door, journal entries, graphic organizers, and
questioning strategies which all served as authentic formative
assessments.
4) The assessments in this unit were all developed using the method of
backwards design. They were first aligned with the state content
standards along with the 21st century skills and literacy/numeracy
standards. Objectives were then formulated for daily lesson plans in
accord with the assessments and standards. A variety of formative,
transformative, and summative assessments were used to ensure that
students reach goals, understandings, and essential questions. The
tools utilized in this unit reinforce long term retention of knowledge
and skills so that they may be accessed and utilized by students in
future endeavors.
