Students are exposed to international conflicts through media,

bombing of Gaza, Ukraine, and the ongoing battle between southern and
northern Sudan. This unit will foster understanding of world conflicts, and how
they change and shape the globe. The Great War changed all aspects of
human life including society, economics, and politics across the globe. By
learning about these issues, students will be leading to question about the
intrinsic nature of human. They will be exploring several of factors that fired
the Great War, different battles in Western and Eastern front, tactics and
weapons, and the consequences of the Great War. Through this exploration,
students will learn the dark side of human nature, and how countries and
people are acting to their own interest. They will look at how imperialism, and
the rivalry of super powers over colonial countries instigated the war. The
exploitation of colonial people will be also mentioned in the lesson, and later
students will look at some behind causes of Americas participation in the
war. By reading the primary source of the Treaty of Versailles, students will
understand that the countries are acting in their own interests, as well as the
United States. These learning lessons will draw them to the previous
question, the intrinsic nature of human beings. In my World history class,
students age ranges between 10th- 11th grade, and they will have a prior
knowledge of the Great War. Thus, I strongly encourage for students
interaction in class, through various types of discussions and questions within
their group, as well as class activities. Students will also have the opportunity
to work a research paper based on the topic they choose. Students will be
responsible for their personal electronics in class, and many times will be
used to reinforce their learning such as looking at photographs, taking

quizzes etc. Through this lesson, students will learn to become better, more
mature and educated citizen, capable of making intelligent and thoughtful
decisions.
