Rules & Classroom Management Policies

CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR: Your responsibilities in this class are to: be on time, be prepared, and
be productive. All team members are expected to be polite and respectful to one another---and
that includes the teacher. No student will be allowed to disrupt the learning of his or her
classmates.

Classroom Grading & Evaluation Policy

Students will receive a grade based on the following categories:

Class work: Participation in class activities and class assignments are important to
informally assess student learning and understanding. All students are expected to
participate in class. Students will receive a participation grade on a daily basis.
Participating in note-taking is a part of the class experience. Students are expected to
take notes in their 3-ring binders. The notes will be used on the standards-based
quizzes. Students are responsible for any work missed during the instructional hour.
Projects: Students will be given projects periodically throughout the year. Some of the
projects include Common Core tasks. Students will receive information on these
projects as the date arises. Students will be given ample time to complete projects, in
some cases extra class time. Students will be graded on a rubric, which will
communicate the expectations of the project and assess specific criteria of the
assignment.

HOMEWORK: Students will receive homework Monday Thursday to enforce key math
concepts. Homework will be due at the beginning of each class. Students will place their
completed homework in the assigned classroom basket before the lesson starts. The teacher
will collect the homework from the basket once class begins. Students have the opportunity to
make corrections on homework assignments to get half points back. Corrections need to be
turned in at the beginning of the next class (meaning you only have the following night to
complete corrections for half points).

Quizzes: A quiz will be given every Friday. Students are allowed to replace previous quiz
grades satisfactory or unsatisfactory with the current weeks quiz so long as there is a
parent signature on the previous quiz.
Tests: Tests will be given once each month. They will cover all material covered between
tests. Students will have an in class review the day before the test, which will include

sample test questions. Tests should be completed independently. Using notes, talking,
or cheating during a test is NOT allowed. If a student is found doing such things, he/she
will receive a 0% on the test and cannot make up the test.
o Students will be allowed to retake a test if the following criteria are met:
1. All homework and assignments are turned in prior to the original test date
2. Student receives extra help, either before or after school
3. Necessary correctives/additional reviews are completed

Late/Make-Up Work
When you are absent you are expected to make up any work you missed. On the day you
return, check the appropriate folder for any missed work. Students will have ONE extra day
to make up the work for full credit.
LATE HOMEWORK: Students will be able to turn in assignments ONE DAY late for half
credit. REMEMBER: partial credit is better than no credit!!!

After-School Tutorial

Math tutorial is available on Monday-Thursday from the end of the school day until 5pm
(3:30pm-5pm). After school tutorial is designed for students who need extra help, or
time to catch up on assignments.

Extra Credit Policy & Procedures

Extra credit will be given to students who are struggling and will be at the teachers
discretion.

Classroom Procedures & Expectations

ENTERING THE CLASSROOM: Students will be expected to:
1). Enter the classroom on time and in a calm, quiet manner.
2). Sharpen your pencil if necessary and sit in your assigned SEAT (not on desk top)
3). Get out materials (pencil, spiral note book).
4). Students will work from bell to bell and will be dismissed by teacher. Students will not line
up at the end of class unless instructed to do so by the teacher.
Remember: Once the door is closed, you must be in your seat and working.

ATTENTION SIGNAL: When I hold up my hand I will say, "Give me five." That means the entire
class should be absolutely silent and still within 5 seconds.
TARDINESS: You are expected to be in your seat when I close the door. If you come in late and
do not have a pass, quietly sign the tardy sheet at the front of the room. You are allowed three
unexcused tardies for the nine weeks. The fourth unexcused tardy results in a detention and a
call home. If you are late (unexcused) for more than 5 minutes, this is not a tardy. You are
considered to be "out of area" and you will be given an automatic detention.
END OF CLASS DISMISSAL: TWO minutes before class ends, I will tell you to start getting packed
up. We will straighten the room. Then, I will give you any last minute instructions and dismiss
you.
RESTROOM PASSES: You are expected to use the restroom between classes. No bathroom
passes (or any passes) will be issued the first fifteen (15) minutes of class.

Discipline
Discipline will be on a points system. For each infraction, a check will be given to the student.
Once a student collects 3 checks in one day, they will have to call their parents to inform them
of having to serve a lunch or after-school detention.
1st check: A brief reminder of the rules. This can be a mere nod to where the class rules have
been displayed in the classroom.
2nd check: A discreet conference with student DIRECTLY after class.
3rd check: Detention & the students desk is moved or switched. Students will call parents
to inform about why they have detention.
4th check (or an extreme rule breaking [e.g. violence, gross disrespect]): A student is sent to
the principal, makes a phone call to their parents, and does not come back to class until a parent
has met with the principal and/or the teacher.
The teacher reserves the right to jump past any checks depending on severity of the offense!!!
