1. A discourse community has a broadly agreed set of


common public goals.

2. A discourse community has mechanisms of


intercommunication among its members.

3. A discourse community uses its participatory


mechanisms primarily to provide information and
feedback.
4. A discourse community utilizes and hence possesses
one or more genres in the communicative furtherance of
its aims.

5. In addition to owning genres, a discourse community


has acquired a specific lexis.

6. A discourse community has a threshold level of


members with a suitable degree of relevant content and
discoursal expertise

How Your Community Fits/Doesnt Fit the Criteria


Cheerleaders fit because they all have an agreed set of common
public goals to pump up their team and their fans.

Cheerleaders fit because they are all able to communicate


through talking, electronically, and also a certain code while
actually communicating like 1, 2, 3, 4 along with signals and
physical communicating. For example if they are at that part of
the stunt then I need to be at this part.
Cheerleaders do communicate to provide information between
each other while performing and also give feedback to each
other after performing as well.
Yes this fits because cheerleaders communicate in multiple
different ways hence possessing multiple different genres.

Yes. Cheerleaders definitely hold their own specific lexis.


Sometimes while watching it seems as if they have their own
different language.
Yes. Most cheerleaders all have prior experience and there is
always a coach with them as well.
