SUMMARY OF WHY THIS

PLAN SHOULD BE USED/

WHAT NEEDS IT MEETS

Students need to be able to understand that learning vocabulary words will

not only benefit them when it comes to expanding their own personal
vocabulary, but is very useful when using the words in the context of certain
topics and making vocabulary words relatable to one and another. This is
very important skills to understand in all classes by understanding what
words mean to each other.

STANDARD

High School- Strand 2: World History PO 3. Analyze the enduring Greek and
Roman contributions and their impact on later civilization

OBJECTIVE

Your student will be able to create a list of terms that were discussed in the
classroom will be able to create a think map of how the terms that are related
to the Roman Civilization. For example Roman architecture: Arch, Aqueduct,
Roman Baths. Splitting these terms into similar categories.

INSTRUCTIONAL INPUT
(TEACHING THE SKILL)

In the instructional part of teaching this lesson what you are going to do is go
over the definitions of the following words. Your child should have brought
home his/her dictionary for you to be able to work this with them. For this you
will teach them what each word means and get them starting to think what is
this word talking about in terms of the huge picture of the Roman Civilization.
These are the following words and the definitions have your child copy these
down a separate sheet of paper.

GUIDED PRACTICE
(PRACTICING THE SKILL
TOGETHER)

With your child you will go over any questions they may have about the
definition of the words. Whether that may be looking up what the definitions
of other words in these definitions maybe in order to get a clear picture of
exactly what the word means. When this is completed you will tell your child
that we are going to start placing these words into complete sentences. Here
is the first one as an example.
You may start with the word plebian:
The plebian class controlled almost the entirety of roman politics early on.
Then you will ask your child to create a sentence with any other vocabulary
word they may choose. You will do this back and forth for two more words or
until the child is able to create a sentence with these vocabulary words. Feel
free if they are struggling to help them along for this portion.

INDEPENDENT PRACTICE

For independent practice have the student create new sentences with all of
these vocabulary words, even for those already done in the previous lesson.
These skills will help understand what the word means in practice and in
relation to other words in a sentence. Give your child 15-20 minutes to create
sentences for all of these words, once their time is up go over the sentences
with them.

ASSESSMENT

The final assessment of if the students are understanding what the word
means in context with the other vocabulary words, they will create a think
map. A think map is where certain words that are similar are paired together
based on similarities or topic with each other. Have your child create a list of

categories and then place words into these categories. Once they are
finished with this have them bring this list to school in order to go over with
the other students as well as the teacher.
