Curriculum Corner
Language Arts
Reading:
This week students will be doing another close reading of a
non-fiction text. We will read the same text multiple times to be able to
dig deeper with our comprehension. Students focus on vocabulary
on the cold (first) read, comprehension questions on the warm (second) read, and higher level thinking questions on the hot (third) read.

Writing
Students are continuing to write their animal report. This week we will
work on parenting style of our animal, as well as a glossary and table
of contents.

Word Study
We have completed Word Study for the year. The remainder of the
year will be focusing on reviewing and using the word wall (high
frequency) words when writing. We will also use Word Study time in
class to learn about nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Enjoy the extra time
not studying for spelling tests to be outside with your family!

Math
We are starting our final unit in math! Unit 9 focuses on math story
problems and adding/subtracting with two digit numbers.

Science/Social Studies
Our Painted Lady larvae arrived last week! We will begin our final
science unit that examines animal life cycles and characteristics of
various animal groups. Each child has their own larvae at their desk to
study throughout the various life cycles, it is extremely exciting!

We will also start our final social studies unit on mapping. This week
we will learn about directions (N, S, E, & W) and will end this unit by
creating and mapping out a city!
