What Composition Helped Me with This Year

Coming into my freshman year of college, I didn't really know what to
expect. I was leaving a place that I knew as home, moving eight hours south
and was told to get used to it. It was hard enough to be far away from home,
but even harder to get used to how to do well in my classes in college. Since
writing is something that is very prominent in college classes, obviously it
was something that I was nervous about at the beginning of this year. But,
after taking my two writing classes this year, I think that I have progressed
immensely. I have gone from a decent writer at best with little confidence in
my skills to someone who is excited to turn in my final paper because I know
that what I am turning in is A+ material. This year, taking Professor Bruner's
classes, I was provided with the right methods and tools to improve my
writing to the point where I really enjoy it. It all started with writing in my
day book which gave me the freedom to practice by writing whatever I
wanted and not feeling the pressure of turning it in for a grade. Also, I had
my Informal Essays that were the next step. These shorter essays gave me
the confidence in my writing that was needed for my progression as a writer.
Then, came my major essays. Over the course of this semester we wrote

three major essays that each helped me attain different skills that made me
a better, all around writer. Finally, came my portfolio. By putting together
this portfolio, I can display some of the work that I am most proud of while
showing my progression as a writer over the course of my freshman year of
college. I hope you enjoy!
