SWBAT read two different excerpts from different
styles of writing (naturalism/romanticism) then
identify the differences and similarities in the two
with 85% accuracy.

excerpts to
individual ideas.

assistance in
helping students
complete the
comparison
sheet.

The students will begin the class with a


warm-up which brings to mind a
review of the romanticism lesson they
previously completed. They will then
read as a class two excerpts, then
discuss the comparisons and
similarities between the two and
complete questions.

Begin with a warm up, using the


literary terms previously learned that
are associated with Naturalism. Then
the class will move into an introduction
of the book Of Mice and Men. Once the
introduction is over moving into the
students listening to the audio version
of chapter one.

of the novel. As well
as complete a warm

reading the novel, through chapter two.

introduce and go over the two excerpts. Making sure
to do a review of romanticism.

SOL:English 11.4 (a-f)


SWBAT use the background information given about
the novel to make predictions as to the outcome of the
novel, then read the novel identifying important
aspects of the chapters with 80% accuracy.
Co-taught class, Crane will be introducing the book
and the connections to be made. Salsman will be
adding in strategies on note taking and any other
important hints.

Wed.

SOL: English 11.4 (a-f)


SWBAT make connections from the novel to current
times, identifying any popular debatable issues or
personal issues with 80% accuracy.
Co-taught class, walking around assisting with notes.
Ensuring students are writing beneficial notes.

Thurs.

SOL:11.4(a-f)
SWBAT identify elements of novel plot including
characters, internal & external conflict, setting with
80% accuracy.

Begin with a warm up, using the SOL

from Novel. Then after the warm up
move into a ch.1-2 quiz. After the quiz
finish with listening to the audio
version of chapter three.

SWBAT make connections from the novel to current
times, identifying any popularly debated topics as
well as any personal thoughts.
Co-taught class, Crane will introduce any novel
specific areas for the students to highlight/notice as
they are reading. Salsman will continue to monitor
and add specific areas of interests and key areas to
strengthen.
