Management Strategies

Management Strategies for problem behaviors differ depending

on the category of the behaviors.
Non-problem
Common Behaviors that are not really problems for anyone such
as:

Brief inattention
Talk during transition between activities
Small periods of woolgathering
Shot pauses while working on assignments

The best way to deal with these problems are to ignore it.
Reacting to them would interrupt lessons constantly and detract
from a positive classroom climate
Minor Problem
Minor problems are behaviors that run counter to class procedure
but do not interrupt class activities or seriously interfere with
student learning. Ways to deal with these problems include:
Get the activity moving
Redirect the behavior

Major Problem
Major problems are any behaviors that disrupt an activity or
interfere with learning but whose occurrence is limited to a single
student or perhaps to a few students not acting in concert. Ways
to deal with these behaviors:

Isolate or remove the student(s)

Use a fine or penalty
Assign detention
Referral to the School Office

Escalating or Spreading Problem

This category includes any minor or major problem that has
become commonplace and constitutes a threat to order and to
the learning environment. Strategies I plan to use to cut down on
these behaviors include:
Designing an Individual Contract with student
Holding a conference with the parent
Using a check or a demerit system
