Ponder Before you Partake


Marijuana use among eighth, tenth and
twelfth graders increased between 2009
and 2010. (Drug Facts: Nationwide
Trends April 2011 edition)

More than 1 in 7 Americans ages 12 and


older have addiction involving nicotine,
alcohol or other drugs
(CASAColmbia.org).

9 out of 10 people with addiction


involving nicotine alcohol or other drugs
began using these substances before
they were 18.

The United States is worlds leader in


incarceration with 2.2 million people
currently in the nations prisons or jails
(thesentencingproject.org).

People who began using addictive


substances before age 15 are nearly 7
times likelier to become addicted than
those who delay first use until age 21 or
older.

Between 2001 and 2013, more than half


of the prisoners serving sentences of more
than a year in federal facilities were
convicted of drug offences
(drugwarfacts.org).

Every year that substance use is


delayed during brain development, the
risk of addiction
decreases(casacolmbia.org)

In 2002, of the 96,359 violent offenders in


jail, 37.6 used alcohol at the time of the
offense (drugwarfacts.com).

Other Key Findings Related to Teen Substance Use


When teens that can get marijuana were asked who they would
get it from, 76% said a friend/classmate; 30% said that their
parents know the person supplying the marijuana
86% of parents support social host laws that make it illegal for
parents to allow underage children (other than their own) to
drink in their home
75% of teens say that teens they know who drink or use drugs
are more likely to engage in sexual activity
Compared to teens who say that none of their friends drink
regularly, those whose friends drink on a regular basis are 13
times likelier to have tried marijuana
Teens who have tried tobacco are 12 times likelier to have used
marijuana compared to teens who have never tried tobacco

Sussex County Epidemic ???


Between 2001 and 2008 there were
19,152 total crimes reported in
Sussex County, Delaware (2,724 of
them violent). Of the 2,394 crimes
that transpire each year in Sussex
County, just about one half take
place less than a mile from home.
On average, someone is a victim of
a crime in Sussex County, Delaware
every 3 hours. This includes 7
murders, 191 rapes, and close to
thirteen thousand thefts (including
529 automobile thefts
(RecordsPeida).

A 73-year-old woman was


arrested during a narcotics
bust in Millsboro. Officers
allegedly recovered from the
property 1,028 bags of heroin
totaling 25.7 grams, whose
street value was estimated to
be $10,000, and 14.45 grams
of powdered cocaine with an
estimated street value of
$500(meterous)
