Dear Readers,
This letter is going to inform you about a topic that I feel very passionately
about. This issue is a global pandemic and something drastic needs to be done
to stop it.
Factory farming, also known as CAFOs (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations) or IFAP (Industrial Farm Animal Production) is an intensive and cruel
farming method adopted by industrialists to produce the highest possible outcomes at the lowest possible costs. Each facility can house more than 125,000
animals under one roof and are designed to produce cheap meat, eggs, and
dairy.
These animals are kept in inhumane conditions and are forced to endure constant pain and torment. On todays factory farms, animals are crammed by the
thousands into filthy, windowless sheds and stuffed into wire cages, metal
crates, and other confinement devices. Theyre often given such little space that
they cant even turn around or lie down comfortably. Most factory-farmed animals have been genetically manipulated to grow larger or to produce more milk
or eggs than they naturally would. Some chickens grow so unnaturally large
that their legs cannot support their outsized bodies, and they suffer from starvation or dehydration when they cant walk to reach food and water. Egglaying hens are kept in small cages, chickens and pigs are kept in jam-packed
sheds, and cows are kept on crowded, filthy feedlots. These animals will never
raise their families, root around in the soil, build nests or do anything that is
natural and important to them. Most wont even feel the warmth of the sun on
their backs or breathe fresh air until the day they are loaded onto trucks headed
for slaughterhouses. When theyve grown large enough to slaughter or their
bodies have been worn out from producing milk or eggs, animals raised for
food are crowded into trucks and transported for miles through all weather extremes, typically without food or water. At the slaughterhouse, those who survived the transport will have their throats slit, plunged into the scalding-hot

water of the de-feathering or hair-removal tanks or while their bodies are being
skinned or hacked apart. All these methods are performed while the animals
are still conscious.
In a pledge to eradicate this pandemic, I propose that we all convert to veganism because factory farms exist solely to satisfy consumer want. With the growing market for fast food chains such as KFC, McDonalds, Burger King and
Wendys millions of lives are being sacrificed for no greater gain. KFC owns a
constant total of around 23,000,000 chickens in order for them to satisfy consumer want. Every time a chicken is consumed, another one is killed to take its
place, so remember every bite counts.
Veganism is a type of vegetarian diet that excludes meat, eggs, dairy products
and all other animal-derived ingredients. By following this diet, consumer demand will lessen, and factory farming industrialists will have no reason to keep
harbouring animals as it will prove to be an unprofitable business.
If eradicating a torturous pandemic is not enough reason to convert you, there
are also health benefits of switching to veganism. While some worry that a diet
lacking in meat will have a negative effect on daily nutrition values, it is proven
that the human body can derive all the nutrients that come from meat by means
of other protein sources. A few examples are lentils, chickpeas, tofu, peas, peanut butter, soy milk, almonds, spinach, rice, whole wheat bread, potatoes, broccoli, kale. The rest of the vitamins and minerals can be derived from a healthy,
and varied vegan diet includes fruits, vegetables, plenty of leafy greens, whole
grain products, nuts, seeds, and legumes. As a by-product of eating a healthy
and varied vegan diet, a person is so much more likely to lead an active and
happy life. The saying we are what we eat is highly applicable to the situation
and eating clean foods such as leafy greens and whole grain products are
wholesome foods that cleanse the body of toxins. This results in a prolonged
energy spike gained from eating complex carbohydrates in conjunction with
vegetables. Meaning that you can spend more time playing and nurturing your
kids, passing on this valuable information for a long time.
Not only should this make you feel committed to becoming a vegan, it should
make you feel passionate about factory farming and animal abuse, which are
now synonymous to each other. Many people forget that animals feel pain like
we do. Please, join me on this journey to save countless lives.
Sincerely yours,
Animal Rights Activist
