Philosophy of Classroom Management

As an educator, providing a comfortable, constructive classroom environment and
capitalizing on opportunities for student learning and growth are the most important factors in
governing student behavior. In this statement, I will describe my stratagems for establishing and
upholding a well-managed environment to augment learning opportunities.

To make my classroom thought-provoking and visually appeasing, I will display

science/math materials as well as examples of student work, to promote self-esteem. The
displays and diagrams in my classroom will be designed to bring in natural life and attract
students interest. At the same time, to minimize student distraction, these stimuli are positioned
on the periphery or in the back of the classroom. Likewise, the lesson plan, calendar, and
announcements will be displayed in the front of the classroom.

In order to help all students feel at ease and comfortable, I will learn their names and
interests immediately and have casual conversations with them. All students interests,
strengths, and ethnic/cultural backgrounds will be welcomed and respected. I will treat all of my
students impartially and interact and connect with them to make them feel appreciated, heard,
and respected. My efforts will respond to all student questions and will remain patient and calm,
helping contribute to my uplifting and hospitable classroom environment.

At the beginning of the year, I will communicate my rules and anticipations clearly and
openly. I will require students and their parents to sign a contract stating that they have read
and understand my behavioral and academic expectations and the penalties for not meeting

them. In addition, my students will sign a safety contract. These contracts will help to create a
nonviolent, constructive, and work-oriented environment where students feel comfortable and
time is not spent on unnecessary or preventable events; as a result, there is more time open for
quality education.

To help minimize misunderstanding and confusion, I will inform my students of what is

expected of them and how to be successful my classroom. For example, daily routines and
procedures are fulfilled and displayed. A weekly calendar of assignments and due dates can
also be found at the front of the class. By implementing these practices regularly, students will
become accustomed with them and achieve a sense of security in my classroom. I also provide
students with goals and clear, succinct directions visually and vocally. These principles will help
keep students attentive, creating fewer behavioral issues and allowing for more significant
instruction.

To prevent students from becoming unfocused or uninterested, it is imperative to have a

nonstop flow of activities. To ensure this, I will plan all of my lessons with extra activities for
unanticipated free time. All of my materials are organized in terms of availability and
convenience so less time is spent accessing them. These efforts help guarantee that class time
is used wisely for advancing education.

In closing, a well-managed classroom creates a relaxed, safe place where students want
and are able to learn. It also prevents disrupting events and behavioral issues, which allows for
more quality instructional and learning time.
