Greetings New Arcadians!
On behalf of the entire Orientation Team, we are delighted to welcome
you to Fall Orientation! We are excited to have you join the Arcadia
family and believe that our community will be a better place by having
you here.
Orientation has a wide variety of workshops, tours, programs, and fun
events designed to introduce you to Arcadia, its diverse programs and
services, as well as Glenside and Philadelphia. During Fall Orientation
there are plenty of opportunities to meet new people, get to know the
campus, discover ways to get involved, and prepare for your academic
experience. The Orientation Team has spent considerable energy
creating a program for ALL new students; so regardless of whether
youre a first-year or transfer or a resident or commuter, youll find
opportunities to engage in the life of the University. You will get out of
orientation what you put into it so take time to light the spark, fan
the flames, and Ignite your Arcadia experience!
Again, welcome to Arcadia and best wishes for much success.

HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OUT OF ORIENTATION

1. Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
Its okay to step outside of your comfort zoneeveryone else is
in the same boat you are! Try new things and talk to people,
you never know where you are going to find a friend!
2. Be Present
Its easy to get consumed thinking about what you might have
forgotten at home or what classes will be like. Instead of
worrying about the past or future, focus on the happiness
around you and dive into the activities orientation provides.

New Student Day of Service

Taylor Hall Parking Lot
Community Service will be taking place throughout the day. You can find
your departure time and location in your Arcadia e-mail. If you have any
questions or concerns about your service placement, ask a member of the

grey polo shirts.
Fall FYSAE Departure

Fall FYSAE Students must be at Taylor Hall by 2:00 pm for your departure.
Please bring your luggage, room key, and Knight ID card with you.

3. Get Involved

Institutional Diversity. This is also a chance for students to meet the
Assistant Dean for Institutional Diversity as well as other faculty and staff.

4. Speak Up
As much as we wish we had super powers, we are not mind
readers! Dont be afraid to ask questionschances are,
somebody is wondering the same thing.

Dinner
Dining Hall
This is the first dinner where you are required to use your meal plan. Please
bring your Knight ID card with you to the Dining Hall to swipe for your meal. If
you are a commuter student who does not have a meal plan, continue to
show your orientation nametag and your meal will be covered.

5. Be Optimistic and Friendly

Your attitude matters, so choose positivity and watch your
world ignite!

Community Service Discussions

Stiteler Auditorium
Meet with the New Student Orientation team and representatives from the
Office of Community Service to discuss the impact you had on the
community earlier in the day.

the best daily choices for you.

you begin to feel unwell or overwhelmed.

Workshop Rotation
You will first meet with your orientation group and your Orientation Leaders will
escort you through a rotation of workshops. OL groups 1 - 13 begin with Matt
Glowaki. OL groups 14 - 26 begin with The Hook Up.
Matt Glowacki:
Diversity According to Family Guy & South Park
Stiteler Auditorium
Family Guy & South Park are examined anew and mined for gold as Matt
identifies ways in which these programs break down stereotypical attitudes
and behavior regarding differences. Matts audiences will never be passive
television viewers again but rather ask, whats the point, whats the moral,
and how are they reflective of the goings on of our culture?
The Hook-Up
Commons Great Room
The Hook-Up engages audiences in a facilitated discussion about hooking-up,
sexual assault, and bystander intervention. The Hook-Up begins with a
discussion on how gender stereotypes contribute to rape culture and harm
survivors. Next, the program unpacks the practice of hooking-up and identifies
the differences between a healthy hook-up, a regretted hook-up, and a sexual
assault. Finally, the program closes using the information we learned about
perpetrators motives and behaviors in order to devise successful bystander
intervention strategies and decrease our communitys tolerance for sexual
predation.
Departure for Philly
Meet your OL group at your group location.
Orientation groups will go into the city and utilize SEPTA transit.
Drive-In Movie: Neighbors
Haber Green
Come out for a fun, relaxing night under the stars on the Green! Enjoy one
of the years most popular films. The Office of Career Education will provide

9. Discover What Campus Has to Offer
From Engagement & New Student Programs in the
Commons to the Learning Resource Network in Knight Hall,
there are resources to help you meet your goals. Take a
stroll around campus and familiarize yourself with them.
10. Strive for Perfect Attendance
Much of orientation is mandatory, but you will still want to
check out ALL the events and activities going on. Youre
sure to find something you like!

the necessary foundation for new students to
