Who Am I As An

Artist
By: Lindsey Texeira

Strengths as an arts
educator
See art in all things
I see art everywhere I go and in everything I do. I tend to look
deeper into a sample of art, whether it may be a painting, song, play
or any other art. I try to see every angle of the art in front of me to
fully understand the artist and what he/she was trying to portray.

Love to use art as an expression

Art is a form of expression. I think for many students art can
function as a therapeutic release of the feelings that a child may be
withholding from the world. For me, I use art as a way of escaping
the world and just being fully immersed in the art project Im doing
and how it makes me feel.

Incorporate art in different ways

Art has many forms creative movement, plays, drama, paintings,
music, poetry and much more. I find it important for educators to
incorporate the arts into the everyday class schedule.

Goals for my
elementary classroom
as an arts educator
Daily Art

Try to incorporate the arts into the classroom everyday.

Various Methods of Art

Songs, Dance, Imagery, Drama, Painting, Crafts, Paintings,
etc

Use the arts as a free time option

Creating art during free time allows students to express a
part of themselves.

Exhibit area for each student

Students should be able to exhibit their artwork in the
classroom and choose how they want to display their work.

Steps to achieve the

goals
Try to integrate the arts into other subject
areas
Give the students enough time to create
quality artwork
Dedicate a corner of the room to students
to display work. This gives each child a
space to exhibit what they consider art.
Give students free time every day. Whether
its 20 minutes or 1 hour, this will give
students an opportunity to be independent
and make choices.

Artifact #1

Home
This is by far one of the best photos I have ever taken. This
picture portrays the arts in many wayscolor, lines, shape,
texture, movement. To me, this picture gives me a sense of
home. This picture is of the pond behind my house that my
cousins and I grew up in. The memories and fun we once had
can never be replaced. As an artist, many of us use our life
events to create art. I think the use of the arts in an

Artifact #2

Creativity

This is one of the jewelry

pieces I made with my
sister-in-law. These
sunrise shells are unique
and hard to come by. The
design was simple yet
complex. Drilling holes
into the shells was tricky.
The soldering of the
metals was tedious but
the end result really
shows the time and
dedication needed to
create quality work. The
time and effort I put into
this piece made it even
more important and
rewarding to me. I hope
that my students will take

Artifact #3

Serenity
This picture was taken at Hamoa, Maui. My family and I
take an annual trip out to Hana. This trip serves as a time
when we can get away from the hustle and bustle of town
life or just life in general. We take this time to make
memories and keep in touch with each other. This past
Labor Day was the first time I took my son. Hopefully one
day he will continue the tradition with his family. I think, as
an artist, I need to find serenity to help me create a clear
idea of what my artwork needs to express. I hope to create
a place of serenity for my students so they can express

Masterpiece
This is a picture of my family. We are all connected to one
another through blood in one way or another. This is three
generations of unique individuals and together we make a
beautiful masterpiece.
