Weather Unit

Week 3- Season Illustration

Teacher Candidate: Allison Taylor Lawrence
Date and Time of Lesson: 2-13-15
Subject/Grade Level: Science/2nd grade
This lesson was the end of our third week of the weather unit. I
have been talking about each season every day. Students know the
colors, animals, and what the nature looks like in each season. This
lesson was a great way for me to incorporate fine arts.
Lesson Title: A walk through the trees
Curriculum Standards Addressed:
Indicator 2-3.3: Illustrate the weather conditions in different seasons
Pre-requisite (Prior-knowledge)
As a group we made a pre-assessment T chart describing the different
weather conditions of spring and summer/winter and fall. We then
focused on reading literature, writing/listening to short stories, and
watching videos that directed different weather conditions of each
season. Students took all of that information from the KWL charts and T
charts and illustrated each seasons weather on a sheet of paper.

KWL chart inserts for their notebooks
Cut up construction paper for their trees
Worksheets
Pre-requisite (prior-knowledge)
Students have touched briefly on seasons in first grade. They knew the
names of the seasons and the average temperature of the seasons. We
also have been reading books about seasons. One book that we read
and discussed was Sings from Treetops, a year in color By: Joyce
Sidman. The other book I read to them was Paint a Sun in the Sky By:
Claire Llewellyn.
