In the novel Writing to Change the World by Mary Pipher explains

different examples of how writing can be a challenge for us to face.
Sometimes we have to think positive and try different techniques to use to
help us and be able to create methods and feel comfortable in trying them.
Therefore, in the play Twilight it shows the different languages that are
being distributive in the play and how they are presenting themselves and
how its being set in the tone of voice. Mary Pipher mentioned some rules
that are related to writing; put them in a perspective where we can actually
understand the different vocabulary words as she mentions respect, accurate
empathy, connection, clarity, perspective, timing, resistance, and hope. All
these different words may benefit the change in writing in the language that
is being put into the play Twilight because it shows the different aspects
and encounters the play, in which we can look back to and be able to
understand those steps that may benefit us to change of writing.
In the play Twlight Los Angeles, 1992 by Anna Deavere Smith tells a
story based on the turmoil and different communities that are coming
together and breaking apart that are becoming different struggles they
might have experienced. These would relate as change of writing because of

the language that is being spoken in the novel and how these different
stories go through something negative. For example, in the American Life
podcast Jude was an African American who was a bachelor and he attended a
party after work where there were seven cops that were off duty and drunk.
Suddenly the officers have the courage to get Jude and start ripping his
clothes off, beat him consistently, kicked him repeatedly and shoved a pen in
his ears until he bled. Police officers assumed that Jude had stolen a badge
from one of the police officers. This shows that the police violence has
caused many negative vibes that have been affecting other people. Polices
are being bias all because there African Americans they assume that have
done something bad which is another way of being racist. In other words, the
way its being to change in writing is how they are presenting the scenario
based on different struggles that African Americans are dealing with and how
its affecting them and using that sort of language. This indicates how we
have to have respect towards our writing process and how we say certain
things because if we dont we may hurt other people or they even may get
defended by it.
Many of us sometimes feel that we dont need to be thinking of what
we write because we feel that we can write something good right away. In
reality it takes time to come up with an idea and know how youre going to
prove it. Therefore, we do need to think in what we need to say because
when we do pay attention we get into depth and it becomes easier for us to
write about it and we tend to pay more attention of our vocabulary and how

we say certain things. In the article Critical Thinking by Bell Hooks explains
how college students tend to have a mindset that they dont need to be
thinking and listen because as college students they assume that they know
everything but in reality they are afraid to come across challenges. The
students like to stick with that one particular method they know best and not
be able to change, its knowing or finding out the who, what, where and soon
that will help us to be accurate and apply those skills to writing and
speaking. For example, in the novel Writing to Change the World by Mary
Pipher talks about finding ways to change and having different criteria for
ourselves to be able to become a good writer and finding our voices. By that
she means when writing we have to focus on finding our voice in side of us
that will allow us to drift off and keep on writing and slowly our voice will
come out with practice and with time. The novel Change in Writing has
something in common that sometimes we have to have a voice and not be
afraid to show it and let our emotions and fears come out. Anna Deavere
Smith wants to prove that these different stories are coming from a
perspective from a negative way and showing that the world is full of
stereotypes and we as human beings we need to show that this world
shouldnt contain that mentality of being treated that way.
Thirdly, the fact that the novel Twilight is having to do with the
different aspects of people being bias or stereotyped because of what they
look like or what they assume they are. Which is why still today people still
do these things and its sad that we do them because we dont realize on the

things we do, its more of a natural behavior. How is this play being
received? Is it really transforming her readers? Its being received by
seeing the real world and realizing that this world is evolving in a behavior
where we do things that can harm a person that can feel insecure, and
scared, its not becoming a positive thing. Its more of transforming the
behavior and actions that people are doing and not realizing their own
actions. Although, people can say that the readers are realizing the different
aspect of these polices and what they can contain and how they act to
certain people. For example, in the novel Borderlands La Frontera by Gloria
Anzaldua she talks about the U.S Mexican border how its very open and it
can be defined as two different worlds that can be safe and unsafe, people
who cannot pass that boarder are Chicanos, Indians, blacks, and aliens. If
they do pass the border there will be consequences for them as being raped,
strangled, and shot. This is what Twilight refers to Americans still say they
have will power and think they can take control; being looked that way is not
being fair for those who are in pain.
Twilight can be seen as a different aspect of good and bad, we have to
learn how to obtain a sense of positivity mind and not judge a person on
their gender, looks, and color. We always cant assume on the negative
things of a person because we dont know who they really are. Change in
writing can be seen as a way to communicate and be able to not be afraid to
do things that can help us change. For example, Michael Brown who was an
18 year old teenager who was starting college was shot by a police officer for

the wrong reasons, assuming that Brown attacked the officer and tried taking
the gun. The lawyer of Browns parents said that they didnt believe that
Brown would do something like that. Many people said that Brown was funny,
big hearted, and positive, didnt like violence he was just the opposite of
what they had said and interviewed friends, family, and teachers that Brown
knew. Michael Brown would probably still be alive today conquering his
dream, but it all relates to people being bias because the officer was
American and Brown was African American which already made it seem a
negative impact. Twilight refers to the bias and different stereotypes that are
occurring and wanted to point out the different views of the impact that are
harming people and being put in situations as Michael Brown and what they
are capable of doing to these innocent people. Therefore it fits the definition
of Change in Writing which amplifies the scenario of having respect
towards others not punishing them for their own kind or stereotyping them
for no reason.
Subsequently, the goals and different analysis that prove the novel
Twilight is a way that is sensed to Change to Writing the World are the
aspects in which the different diversity are becoming more of stereotypes.
Making a difference by not always judging a person for who they are but for
whom they have become as an individual, and those are struggles we face in
reality.
