As a high school senior, you have many tasks and difficult decisions that influence the
rest of your life. One of the biggest decisions I feel would have to be deciding where to go to
college. College is a place one becomes independent, and starts making decisions on their own
so when picking where to go one should choose carefully. Thats how CSUN (California State
University Northridge) got in my picture after realizing all the opportunities it has to offer.
Although CSUN is a commuter college, I believe you should attend CSUN because it is a very
large campus with many majors, with also a vast majority of clubs and a very beautiful campus.
CSUN not only has to offer over 60 majors but you can you can also minor in over 60
minors. CSUN has a variety of different major varying in all different subjects. CSUN top five
programs involve Psychology, Liberal Studies, Radio/TV/Broadcasting, Organizational System
Management, and Business Administration(Stace). These are some of the more popular majors
that are available at CSUN. With all the majors CSUN has to offer one can obtain any job in any
career. A college degree not only makes you more qualify for the job but it can also give you a
higher paying wage. The recent Census survey says, the median salary for college grads is more
than $20,000 higher than that of people with only a high school diploma(Purdy). In other words
people who attend a college and receive a degree are guarantee a greater wage than just a high
school diploma. College degrees are valuable and CSUN can offer you that with all the majors
they provide. CSUN wants you to succeed in your education and hopefully give you the
opportunity to obtain the job of your dreams. Thats why CSUN has many opportunities your

Llamas-Gonzalez 2
major can offer you to better your education. For example, the Mike Curb of Arts, Media, and
Communication College have film, and instrumental equipment for the students to borrow in
majors like CTVA, Music, and Journalism. Like this department, other departments also offer
equipment like free printing, and tutoring for people who need help in their classes. Having
resources like this available give you hands on experience on equipment you will be using in the
future. These resources put you at a greater advantage at landing a job than someone else can be
competing for. Also the academic help CSUN has to offer you is a great benefit for your
education. Many people waste thousands of dollars on tutors to enable them to pass their classes.
CSUN offers free tutoring for every class course you need the help in. Having tutoring available
is a benefit that can help you become a better student and a better worker when placed out in the
work force because your taking extra time to get a better understanding of the subject. Lastly
when picking where to go to school it is an essential you go to a school where they have your
major. With the plenty of majors CSUN has to offer one can switched majors with out the doubt
of picking the wrong school.
CSUN has many majors but CSUN also has many clubs and extra curriculum activities.
Like you heard in High school if you get involve it makes your life fun and school easier. CSUN
has to offer around 300 clubs varying from volunteering, dancing, sports, Greek life, and any
thing you can think of. All of these clubs offer you the chance to persuade an old hobby or create
a new one. Clubs like Greek life offer you to branch out to different Sororities or Fraternities
that later can become a second family to you. Greek life at CSUN is pretty big with the sororities
and fraternities hosting many fundraisers outside buildings, and having many events if one
decides to join. The events that the Greek life hosts are beneficial for a lifetime making your
resume and networking expand. There events help fundraise big non-profit organization that

make a difference. For example, Since 1941, Phi Beta Psi has donated over 7 million dollars to
cancer research.(Phi). A sorority that with their events help fundraise a lot of money for their
non-profit organization. The donation is a gesture that is very self-rewarding and benefits the
organization greatly because all the work you put in to making it happen. CSUN also has sports
clubs that are called intermural sport clubs, which its a club that has many sports one can play.
This club gives you the opportunity to still persuade your sport or learn a new one. Being able to
stay active in college is very important especially because of all the hours you will be spending
on the computer or on your book studying. Research shows living an active lifestyle, It can help
to reduce blood pressure, tones muscles, strengthens your bones and can help to control your
weight(First). Living an active life can benefit your new college lifestyle. Being independent
and not having someone constantly telling you what to do can lead you to poor food decisions.
Thats why CSUN gives you the opportunity to join the intramural sport club and keep you in the
track of a healthy lifestyle. CSUN has many clubs and organization one can join but if you cant
find something you like CSUN also gives you the opportunity to start your own club.
Oppose to other California State Universities, CSUN has a very clean, modernized, and
beautiful campus. After CSUN got hit with a gigantic earthquake in 1994 tearing apart all the
buildings and having to rebuild everything from scratch. Received the second in a series of
federal disaster recovery payments that eventually are expected to total nearly $140 million - the
lump sum they requested to finish all earthquake repairs(Alexander). This shows that CSUN
was given plenty of money from the government to rebuild. With the money that was given from
the government, CSUN has been remodel to look like a very modernized campus with huge
classrooms, nice glass windows, and coffee shops in almost every building. The campus is filled
with beautiful flowers and a pond filled with turtles and ducks. CSUN also is very eco-friendly

Llamas-Gonzalez 4
having many buckets of trash can and recycle bins placed all over campus. Having a cleaner
campus makes you want to enjoy a day sitting outside studying, eating or hanging out with
friends. In our century half of the population is either inside on the computers or glued inside
there smart phones. If the campus looks beautiful more people are open to the idea of going
outside and getting some fresh air. With fresh air and less time housed up inside one can focus
more in class and obtain better grades. In contrast to other campus CSUN puts a lot of effort to
keep their campus looking beautiful and cleaner. CSUN associated students have a team
dedicated to recycling and keeping up with the recycling bins (e-waste) around campus. This
team not only helps keep the campus clean by having the bins placed at every corner but they
also host events to better inform people on keeping the campus looking cleaner. The team also
gives out rewards if caught Green Handed which will make more people likely to recycle.
Recycling makes your environment (CSUN) better looking and cleaner. CSUN is an eco friendly
school having many campus recycling services placed all over campus. By CSUN being ecofriendly it usually follows you to have an eco friendly life. The plant is better and cleaner if more
and more people are taking a stand and becoming eco-friendlier. Recycling is a step CSUN
students are doing without realizing it.
CSUN is a Cal State college occupied with many commuter students. Being a commuter
school one can say it can be one of the disadvantages of attending CSUN, especially when
college is suppose to be a place you get away from your parents. Even though CSUN is very
close to home one realizes when coming to CSUN that there is many activities and events one
can distract themselves from. Every year there is events like Big Show, Matador nights, and
famous guest lectures. These events are fun, memorable, and entertaining to attend with your
college friends. With these events many commuters tend to forget they live so close to CSUN.

Llamas-Gonzalez 5
Being a commuter at CSUN also comes with the benefit of not having to spend extra money on
off-campus housing. Living at home makes your life more affordable and being able to do all the
college experiences at a cheaper cost.
California State University is a large campus occupying over 40,000 students located in
Los Angeles County. A campus located in an urban area next to the glamour of Hollywood, the
breezy Santa Monica beach, and in the middle of the San Fernando Valley a perfect packet
combined all in one. CSUN offers you more than plenty of majors varying dramatically in all
fields. With all the varieties in majors CSUN has to offer many opportunities are broaden in your
horizon to pursue any career. CSUN also gives you the chance to join any club thats interest
you. All these clubs can help you make new friends, discover new interests, and benefit your
future. Lastly CSUN is one of the most beautiful CSU campus having different kind of flowers
and trees planted all over campus. One should see CSUN as a great investment offering all these
great benefits that can offer you a successful future and make your college experience a
memorable one.
