Action Assignment
CSI Major:

Plan of

Secondary Education - Emphasis: Earth Science

EDUC 290

Indicate University/College (transfer institution):_BSU (I think, if not

then ISU)_______________________
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is for you to begin to address the
graduation requirements for your major and to address the entrance
requirements for your chosen four-year institution. Please address the
questions below. Please type your responses.
1. 1. What courses are you currently taking this semester?
ANTH 102, EDUC 290, ENGL 126, GEOL 101, PHYA 244, and PHYE 155.
1. 2. What courses do you need to graduate with your AA degree? (Please
see Lena Paxton to get a copy of your Degree Audit, if you have problems. Lena is
located in the Matrix in the Taylor Administration Building on the CSI campus; you can
also email her at lpaxton@csi.edu.) Otherwise, go to MyCSI under your grades

option.
MATH 144, GEOL 102, and PHYS 111.
1. 3. Have you applied for CSI graduation?
No.
1. 4. Have you completed CSIs Computer Literacy Assessment?
Yes: EDUC 215.
1. 5. What are the entrance requirements for your chosen four-year
institution? What are the application deadlines? If you plan to apply for
scholarships, what are the scholarship application deadlines? Have you
applied for financial aid?
I will not graduate from CSI until after the Fall 2015 semester, so I wouldnt
go to BSU until Spring. But, I think I will do a consortium agreement with BSU
in the fall, so then I will need to apply for fall. Application deadline: May 15,
2015. Scholarship Deadline: Feb. 15, 2015. Entrance Requirements: With an
associates, I need a cumulative 2.00 GPA or higher. I need to send my official
transcript from CSI. I need to pass Praxis 1 (writing) before admission to the
Teacher Education Program. Once that is passed, I can apply to the TEP, but
must be accepted. The deadline for TEP is the third Friday in September. The
requirements to get into the TEP are: cumulative GPA of at least 2.75, major

GPA of at least 2.5, GPA of at leas 3.0 in all education classes, minimum of
172 for PRAXIS 1, and minimum grade of C- in all required courses. An
interview prior to admission is also required. I have not yet applied for
financial aid, but will do so with the consortium agreement.
1. 6. Does your chosen four-year institution require Praxis 1 (or other tests)?
What scores are needed? What are the dates for Praxis 1 (or other tests)?
Do these tests have to be completed before the application deadline? If
so, how long does it take to process test scores?

Praxis Website: www.ets.org

For BSU, the Praxis 1 (writing) needs to be passed before applying. A

minimum of 172 is needed for PRAXIS 1. There is continuous testing of the
PRAXIS 1 going on at the Sylvan Learning Center in Boise. It is necessary to
call ahead and register. I am not sure of the date the test needs to be taken
in order to get to BSU in time. I couldnt find that information, but I do know
that it automatically goes to the Idaho State Department of Education.
Comments: I am a little ambivalent about getting my bachelors degree in
Boise. I have three young children and a boyfriend. I am worried about the
logistics of me driving back and forth. I am sure this comes up and wonder if
you have any insight as to how students handle this situation? Are some
classes offered online? Can I do my student teaching in Twin Falls. I am
struggling with the idea of being away from my family so much for the next
two years. I hope to get a clearer picture in my head of how this works.
Thank you!!!
