COLLEGE ENTRANCE TESTS

Information is now available in the guidance office to register for the ACT and/or SAT.
Both encourage on-line registration. Most colleges and universities require one of these
tests to help screen admissions.
The ACT (American College Test) provides four test scores and a composite score.
There is also an optional writing section which we highly encourage students to take
at least one time. The ACT results are used by most college admissions offices across
the country. There is no penalty for wrong answers on the ACT.
The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) measures verbal, math, and writing skills. Unlike the
ACT, there is a penalty for wrong answers on the SAT.
Both the ACT and the SAT may be taken more than one time. This could be to your
advantage, since most colleges/universities use only your best scores. Please listen to
the announcements for more information as the testing dates get closer.
To help improve ACT/SAT scores, go
www.collegeboard.org or use the OCIS website.

PSAT/NMSQT
The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test will
be given to interested sophomores and juniors on Wednesday, October 15th, during
periods 1-4. The counselors visited Language Arts classes to discuss the registration
procedures. Juniors, especially, are encouraged to take it as they may be able to qualify
for National Merit Scholarship Monies. The test takes two hours and ten minutes and
contains verbal, math, and writing questions. Results let you compare your ability to do
college work with the ability of other college-bound students. Taking the PSAT/NMSQT
gives you practice for taking the SAT because the questions and scores are similar. It will
also help you begin to plan for college, and is the first step in entering the college
scholarship programs. A $14.00 fee must be paid when registering for the test.
Registration is in the guidance office from September 29th to October 10th.
Ohio Graduation Test (O.G.T.)
Any junior or senior who still needs to pass a portion of the OGT will be given the test
during the week of October 27th.

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude
Battery (ASVAB) test will be given to
interested juniors and seniors on Friday,
December 12th. The ASVAB Career
Exploration Program is designed to help
students identify, understand, and
organize information about their interests,
abilities, and personal preferences to
help them determine which occupations
best suit them. Information about
registration will be announced soon..
