Conversation With Child

Me: Hi, Delilah!
Delilah: Hi, Miss. Darcy!
Me: Can you tell me about what youre
painting today?
Delilah: Miss. Shanna tells us we had to paint
a tree for fall. This is my tree for fall.
Me: Oh yes! I see your trunk and the pretty
leaves! How are fall trees different from
other trees?

Conversation Contd
Delilah: Fall trees have more pretty colors. Then the
wind comes and the leaves fall off.
Me: Yes I see some of the trees outside have lots of
leaves and the others dont have very many. Is your
tree going to have a lot of leaves or just a few?
Delilah: My leaves will be on the tree and on the
grass? See?
Me: Oh yes I do see. Your picture is really beautiful!
Thank you for sharing it with me!

Analysis
Through my conversation with Delilah and
my observation and analysis of her work I
determined that she is in the pre-schematic
phase of development.
The size of the drawings are not proportional
to the size of the paper. The colors are also
not realistic and nothing is anchored. This is
very typical for a 4 year old.

Analysis Contd
Delilahs answers to my questions were
typical of her age.
She was very open and eager to share about
her picture and very proud of her work once
it was finished.
Delilahs social and emotional development
seem to be right on track.
