Creative Revision Reflection:
There are so many different ways to propose an argument using all sorts of styles and
techniques as well as different forms and technologies. Depending on the content of the
information being presented it may be difficult to determine the best way to propose that
information. For my creative revision I found an alternative way to display the information from
our second major writing assignment. This time I was able to take the information from the
MWA2 and transform it from an arguing essay into an informational brochure. The information
remains the same however the presentation of the argument has changed.
The MWA2 assignment involved taking a stance on an issue that was important to me.
While explaining the importance of the issue, I was to present my understanding of the various
stances on this issue as well as engage with those holding an opposing viewpoint (counter
argument) to make an argument in favor of my stance. I chose to argue the possible benefits of
using marijuana and the negative effects of using marijuana. I was able to transfer most of my
ideals from the actual paper over to the brochure quite simply. Many student learning outcomes
such as SLOs A, C, F, G, and H were inevitably practiced during the process of writing the
MWA2 and transferring it into the brochure. Within the MWA2 I am able to represent opposing
arguments as well as argue my own viewpoints in many ways. I also integrate quotes from

articles from websites like Livescience.com, USAtoday, and BusinessInsider. Also by changing
the presentation of my information I am using concepts from the SLOs. In the paper, my ideals
were broadened and very detailed. However I decided to simplify the information in order to
compact it into an easy to read informal brochure. The information was only changed in the way
that it was presented. Instead of being drawn out sentences and paragraphs with a multitude of
ideals dealing with the situation I decided to cut out additional sentences that lengthened the
paper. I used the specific main points from the paper and wrote them in short paragraphs within
sections of the brochure. This narrowing technique allowed me to display the same argument in a
way that was straight to the point. I was also able to add in images to give the audience visual
aids to the points being made within the argument. I feel if I truly desired to spread these ideas
from my argument, this brochure would be the best way to extend the information. They would
be easy to hand out and would only take a minute or two to read and understand the main idea of
the message much faster than reading a five page essay. All in all the presentation for this
particular situation would be best displayed as something as simple as this. That is the reason I
decided to go with the idea of a simple brochure.
To conclude, it is crucial to consider the method of presentation within writing and
proposing arguments. Some ways are necessary while others can be determined through various
techniques and technologies. Reflecting over the purpose of the situation plays a major role in
deciding the best way to make a presentation. Many of the student learning outcomes dealt with
learning and practicing alternative ways of proposing arguments other than just essays. I chose to
transform my arguing essay on the topic of the benefits of marijuana into an informal brochure.
The Brochure represents an alternative presentation in which the audience can effectively receive
the ideals of my viewpoint in an easy way.
