There is no nation without a culture, no identity without a history, and no future without

a past. The base concept of imperialism and colonialism is cultural propagation- either erasing a
nations past or replacing it with a favorable future. This is seen with hundreds of societies, but
most obviously black culture; taken from its origins and transplanted into dozens of different
situation. This creates an amalgamation of cultures with no historical pretext, no stability, and no
sense. While beautiful art can come from these uncomfortable situations (e.g the Harlem
Renaissance, Negritude movement) more often than not youll create a masochistic, selfdestructive community. Today much of African culture is represented by young men with
hundreds of years of historical prejudice trying to come to terms with their lives, and what is left
for the world to see is the rubble and facsimiles of a once proud community. Pull any person
from what theyve known and believed for the entirety of their lives and throw them into an
abusive system, designed to exploit and use them, and watch the same thing happen. I argue that
the trauma of being uprooted will end in tragedy without a serious, universally accepted
movement for those affected- in this case the black community. The poverty, criminality, and
seething rage that unfortunately represents much of our lives today is a byproduct of colonialist
policy hundreds of years ago; and without a strong leader, with unilateral support and belief, it
may be all that our imperialist system allows an apprehended culture to be.

It is the responsibility of each and every human being to advance human knowledge and
technology as far as possible; and when possible, to enable others to advance those ideals even
further. A dominant culture becomes dominant by these ideas, and actively seeks to further their
cause through colonialism. The intentions behind English foreign policies were sound- to teach
and involve more people in a modern way of civilization. I strongly believe that humanity stands
a great deal to gain if the mindless political and economic bickering was to be put aside for our
peoples greater goals. Societies, even nations, are nothing more than a group of people with a
common goal; and in organizing; they create security, safety, and an expedited process of
advancement. To put this on a larger scale, and try and create a unified society of earth, with all
the lands and people living under one flag, would almost instantly solve the problems of
diplomacy, trade, and war. Great Britain wasnt the first to attempt this; you only have to look as
far as Germany, the Ottoman Empire, or the Huns to see the same ideas at play. To try and
prevent colonialism is to delay the onward march of technology and humanity itself; any process
which speeds the advancement of one man in life must be applied to another. Great Britains
industrial, political, and cultural ways are that process that must be applied to every other man,
woman, and child on this earth- for the sake of humanity and for whom ever will live to see the
benefits of our generations work.
