AGE, CLASS, GENDER AND NATIONALITY

Age

We believe that we have represented an age ranging from 15-35. This is

because of the implied stalking throughout the sequence. The fact that
the stalking is implied is something that younger audiences might not
appreciate: they might prefer more direct and obvious violence found in
slasher horror films. In addition to this, the actual content of the film
requires us to place it an age rating of 15, meaning it would be illegal
for people younger than this to view it. Also, the psychological aspect
of the film is something that can only be understood by a more mature
audience with reasonable intelligence. The protagonist of the film is
aged 17 which emphasises our desire to represent a more mature
audience.

Class

We have represented the middle class within this production. We have

achieved this through the use of mise-en-scene and location. The
beginning of the sequence takes place in a typical, middle-class home
which the protagonist lives in. Also, the street, which is revealed after
the house scene, shows the neighbourhood in which the protagonist
lives in. This is also a middle-class environment, emphasising the class
we were aiming for. In addition, the outfit of the protagonist is one of a
typical middle-class person e.g. Nike products, hoodie, trainers etc. The
mise-en-scene used in the sequence also shows the class we tried to
represent. The use of props such as the iPhone and earphones, which I
clearly emphasised through the use of close-ups, are items that
stereotypical middle-class people have.

Gender

We have not particularly aimed to satisfy a certain gender. Despite this,

we believe that the media product would be suited more to a male
audience. This is because not only are no females involved in the film
but also stalker horror films are generally viewed by a male audience.
Suspense is something that males are more intrigued by and they enjoy
the tension of a scary piece of film. This is supported by scientific
research that shows that the build-up of tension causes primal
behaviour, mainly in males, to assess the threat levels of the sequence
and the danger to the main protagonist of the film. Of course, some
females are interested in this type of film and we would invite them to
watch and enjoy it, but we believe predominately males would be
interested in our media product.

Nationality

We feel that our media product does not convey the aspects of a typical
British film. We instead believe that our film conveys the ideology of
American theatre. This is due to the suspense that we created through
the use of sound. The sound we used were produced by American
artists showing that we are embracing the American music culture as
well. Also, the protagonist is wearing clothes that are popular in
American culture such as the Nike products which are an American
company. The stalker horror genre itself is a predominantly American
genre that isnt very popular with British audiences. Despite this, the
location of the entire piece is set in a typical middle-class British home
and the forest area is something very common in British landscape.
