1. Learning Outcome/Behavioral Objectives: Students will use movements to


indicate the timer signature 4/4 (changing movements every 4 beats). Students
will be able to sing Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear accurately and with solfege hands
signs. Students will demonstrate understanding of ta and ti-tis by breaking down
the rhythm of teddy bear, teddy bear.
2. Required Prior Knowledge and Skills: understanding of eighth and quarter
notes, and the pitches sol la and mi and their respective hand signs.
3. Anticipated needs: Students may have difficulty notating their accompaniments
since we will be using 2 clefs, and they might be a little shaky on the bass clef.

6. Assessment: Students performance will be evaluated by the teacher. Teacher
will check for accurate pitching of the notes and accurate formation of the
Curwen hand signs. Students will be assessed based on participation in the group,
i.e. the teacher will take notes of who contribution/who doesnt.
7. Materials, Repertoire, Equipment needed: large staff (possibly on the white
board) to write rhythmic notation, projector, computer, YouTube video of
Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride. Also a stuffed teddy bear
8. Accommodations:
a. Teacher should always be sure to speak clearly and face students while
talking/giving instructions.

9. Lesson Sequence:
a. Activity: Activator/Warm Up
As students walk in they will listen to Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride. Well be
doing an opening activity with this song so tell the students to listen and see if
they can tap the beats.

b. Activity: Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride
Teacher will lead a beating exercise using Lilo and Stitchs Hawaiian Roller
Coaster Ride. The Teacher will stand in front of the class leading the other
students in a series of patterns using body percussion/movement. (i.e. tapping
feet together, patting knees, patting shoulder, stomping, jumping etc.) After
the teacher has led, choose a student to lead.

c. Activity: Introduction/Discussion
Bring out a teddy bear (in this case, an Appa plush ) to introduce the song.
Have a discussion about Teddy Bears. Explain that the song is about teddy
bears. Do you have a teddy bear? What are your favorite things about teddy
bears? What are some things that teddy bears do?

d. Activity: Teach the song
Teach the class Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear in two measure chucks, by rote. 2-3
mins
e. Activity: Rhythm & solfege
Go through the rhythm of the song reviewing tas and ti-tis. 3mins
Do the song on Solfege with hand signs. Lead the students to discovering the
new pitches.
f. Activity: Play the game
Students stand in a circle, while the teacher hold the teddy bear. We learn the
motions (turn around, touch the ground, tie your shoe, I love you) on I love you
the teacher passes the bear to someone else and the song starts over again. Make
sure everyone gets a turn with the bear.
g. Activity: Summarizer/Foreshadowing:
Next time well be learning a song about the mountains, so be ready!
10. Assignments: Practice your hand signs, because next weeks song goes really
fast!
11. Contingency plan: More game/ Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride!
