SuperHeroes Group 8

Introduction
Topic: Superheroes
Question being asked: With the rise of super hero movies hitting the box office from both Marvel
and DC Comics the question being raised is: does the film industry manipulate superhero
preferences?
Tools used: when conducting this research we utilized google docs, forms and sheets to conduct
a survey which was then turned into a spreadsheet for analysis and finally used a document to
write down our research.
Responses: after conducting a quick and thorough survey we yielded 26 responses from students

Discussion

When it comes to comparing gender and number of participant it has produced pretty straight
forward results in that overall the general preference lies within Marvel. Within the male
population it was a clear favorite that 7 of the 8 males preferred Marvel, where as their female
counterparts yielded a 16 out of 18 that preferred Marvel over DC. With a greater amount of

Marvel movies produced so far it hasnt come to a surprise that most people prefer them over
DC.

This was just to ask for fun and tried to give variety in the responses, but from what we collected
the majority of students, if given the option would ask for telekinesis over any other power listed
as an option. It came as a surprise when only one person had elected for either super strength or
x-ray vision.

Although they are dominated with Marvel teams DC put up a fight with help from the Justice
League. When observing the graph it appears that half of the male participants chose to pick the
X-Men as their Victors with the Justice League trailing by one vote. This speculation on why this
is could be of light of the recent X-Men movie to appear in theatres. As for the female voice an

astonishing amount had the Avengers winning with the majority of the other teams (with the
exception of the X-men) having tied for second.

When looking at overall favorite superhero males had chosen Batman which has been the star of
DC of late with the movie franchise and videogames based around the caped crusader. After was
a tie between two common Marvel heroes being Captain America and Spiderman. When it
comes to the females it seems that there is a mutual understanding that Iron Man is the favorite
both DC counterparts (Batman and Superman) finish in second.

For the last graph we chose to analyze female superheroes to find any outstanding outcome and
we were not disappointed. Both male and female have chosen Wonder Woman as the favorite
female role being that she is the iconic female character within the comic book universe. With

the rise of the Avengers movies Black Widow has been growing popularity within the female
focus group.

Analysis
When asked, Marvel had an overwhelming 88% of votes
The most well know superhero with Telekinesis is Professor X from the X Men which comes
from Marvel. Telekinesis was the superpower chosen most
When asked which team would win in a fight, Marvels Avengers beat the other teams with 46%
of the votes
When it came to the Overall Superhero, the data was split with men favoring Batman (DC
Comics) and women favoring Iron Man (Marvel)
DC Comics won the favorite female superhero with 42% of the votes going to Wonder Woman
If asked to change this would be expanding superhero options and comparing age groups as well
