DESCRIPTION

HOW TO USE

XIAMETER AFE-2210
Antifoam Emulsion is a waterdilutable, 10% active emulsion
that is designed to control foam
in a variety of aqueous systems.

In Chemcial Manufacturing
applications
XIAMETER AFE-2210
Antifoam Emulsion works
effectively in very low
concentrations., One to 100
parts of active silicone per
million parts foamer are
sufficient to eliminate most
foams. Begin trials at higher
use levels (50 ppm active
silicone), then work down to
the level of foam control
desired.

XIAMETER AFE-2210 Antifoam

Emulsion shows effective anti
foam performance and
compatibility in clear, waterborne wood coatings. Suitable
for use in high gloss, semi-gloss
and flat latex (emulsion) paints.
EPA Status
XIAMETER AFE-2210 Antifoam
Emulsion is exempt from
tolerance 40CRF180.1001.920.

Applications
XIAMETER AFE-2210 Antifoam
Emulsion can be added directly
during the letdown stage or prediluted with 3 to 10 parts of cool
water if used immediately.
Product should be agitated
prior to use for best results. The
recommended addition level is
0.05% - 1 % based on total
formulation.

Adding the Antifoam

To produce optimal foam
control, the antifoam must be
completely dispersed in the
foaming medium. Follow these
steps to achieve complete
dispersion:
1. Agitate product prior to use.
2. Predilute with 3 to 10 parts
of cool water to aid in
dispersion. Add the
antifoam to the water with
slow mixing. Prediluted
material should be used
immediately.
If the system can provide
adequate agitation to
disperse the antifoam, the
antifoam emulsion may be
added directly without
predilution being
necessary.
3. Add the antifoam prior to
the point where foaming
occurs within the system, if
possible.
The recommended addition
level is 0.05% - 1 % based on
total formulation.
A preservative to guard against
microbial growth is included in
XIAMETER AFE-2210 Antifoam
Emulsion. Dilution will
substantially diminish the
effectiveness of the
preservative. If diluted material
is to be stored for more than
several days, additional
preservative may be required.

Methods:
1. Foam collapse time: 20g of formulated paint is diluted with 20g deionized water and shaken vigorously for 30 seconds.
Time for foam to collapse to liquid surface is measured in minutes.

2. Gloss: Values are average of 5 measurements taken in different coating areas using a Byk Gardner micro-TRI-gloss
meter using 20C (68F) and 60C (140F) geometries.
3. Appearance: Qualitative rating of I = Excellent and 5 = Poor was assigned based on number of surface defects.
Drawdowns were made using a number 44 wire round rod onto AL39 anodized aluminum panels.
