Philosophy

The profession of teaching is an art and a science; it takes years of practice like the
former and substantial researching of empirical methodology like the latter. The most
effective educators are forward thinking, collaborative in nature, and ardently
pragmatic. Too many social science teachers focus on giving the students lists of
facts/dates to memorize. Instead, we need to focus on the big ideas and major
conceptual themes so our students retain an impactful take-away of the content;
make the content relevant to their individualistic lives. My job isnt just to teach them
inside the classroom, but to prepare them for what comes after, their civic
responsibilities as an American citizens. The best teachers are students for life, and I
am looking forward to constantly adjusting my techniques in order to refine my
professional duties.
