Standard #7: The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting

rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum,

crossdisciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the
community context.

Interpretation:
My interpretation of standard 7 is that teachers have to individually meet each
student learning goals. This means that it is the teachers responsible to realize that
not every students learns the same way. The teacher can not teach the whole class
room the exact same way. Each student learns differently and the teacher needs to
go find the best way that each student learns. This is why I chose to make an IAP for
my artifact.

Artifact:

For standard 7 I would have an Individual Action Plan (IAP) in place for all of the
students. This would be a great way to support every student learning goals. The
IAP allows the teacher to dictate how the student will work and what the student will
accomplish. This is the best way to individually meet every students goals. The
teacher sets the IAP for each student. The teacher can also find help by talking to
other teachers that have taught the student and having parent teacher
conferences.

Reflection:
I plan on using this in my class room. I understand that every child learns differently.
By creating an IAP I will be able to teach students to the fullest. I can give them a
plan and they can follow through with it to gain knowledge. I will have meeting with
parents and talk to past teachers to help me get a better plan for the student.

Standard #8: The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional

strategies to encourage learners to develop deep understanding of content areas
and their connections, and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.

Interpretation:
My interpretation of standard 8 is that the teacher does not get in a routine and
have different strategies of teaching the students. I would say that standard 8
allows students to have a different view of what is being taught to them. Maybe a
teacher just gives notes every day and that is all they do. Standard 8 I believe
wants the teachers to have different ways of teaching students and also wants the
students to put their new knowledge to great things.

Artifact:

For my artifact I chose to do a field trip with the students. Below is the how the field
trip would go. I would be taking students to a local nursing home. This is how I
would let my students express their knowledge in a useful way. I especially believe
that is would be good for a psych sort of class. However I think that it would work
for any class. I would have them visit with the elders at the home and then write
and essay about their experience there. They would have to write about what they
expected it to be like. How it was different from their expectations and what they
learned.

Name of the field trip site(s): local home
Field trip organizer(s): Mr. Scheidler
Number and grade level of students:
Date of field trip:
Field trip description/location Students will visit with many elders in the
home. They will engage in conversation and go to the rec room to play
games with the elders.
Time needed (date, length of trip, day of instruction in relation to the program)
10 am to 3 pm
Materials needed (if applicable) pencil and paper to take notes about the
experience.
Objectives At the end of the field trip, what will the students will be able to do?
The students will be able to reflect on their experience. The students will be able
to learn from the elders and the experience to engage critical thinking. The
students will help the community and hopefully learn humility through the
experience.

Reflection:
I believe that this would be a great trip for all students. This allows the teacher to
not get in a routine and helps the students stay engaged. It also allows the students
to use their knowledge in a useful way to help the community and hopefully find
humility in the experience.

How will this field trip help students to achieve the objective(s)?
Pre-trip activities: Remind the students what the objective is.
During-trip activities: engage with the elders and use critical thinking
Post-trip activities: write an essay of the experience.
Assessment
Additional activities
What additional activities might the students take home or do outside of class to strengthen or
extend their skills?
