Rationale/Justification
The curriculum resources include a collection of websites that I have
researched and filed to address the TEKS and to engage students
deeper in learning. This activity shows that I am able to use
appropriate materials for planning lessons as well as use
technological tools to promote learning and expand instructional
options.
This was a lesson plan for 2nd grade Math on 2-D shapes and 3-D
solids. This activity shows that I am able to plan lessons and assess
students in to assure they are learning based on the TEKS guidelines.
I used real world examples that reflected their knowledge and
understanding. The lesson was motivating and engaging. I planned
and taught two other lessonsone for 2nd grade Science The needs
of a Plant: in which we planted seeds using various scenarios to test
how plants grow based on how they did or did not get their needs.
And one for 2nd grade Social Studies Weather and Climate: in
which the students used a thermometer to measure daily temperature
and compared to another location in the country. All these lessons
were engaging, interactive and motivated students to want to learn
and achieve more.

This was an intense activity in which I created, planned, and

presented an idea for a project for our students in which they would
have to plan, research, use inquiry skills to create a project that also
solves a problem, or answers a question. This strategy focuses on

student inquiry, higher-order
thinking, problem solving, and
productive, supportive interactions;
3.6s The beginning teacher is able to
apply skills for leading discussions
that engage all students in exploring
important questions and that extend
students knowledge.
Standard IV:
4.12s The beginning teacher is able to
participate in various types of
professional development
opportunities (e.g., conferences,
workshops, work with mentors and
other support systems)
Standard I:
1.1s The beginning teacher is able to
use a variety of pedagogical
techniques to convey information and
teach skills. 1.18s The beginning
teacher is able to use resources
available outside the school (e.g.,
museums, businesses, community
members) to enhance students
learning opportunities. 1.19s The
beginning teacher is able to plan
instructional activities that progress
sequentially and support stated
instructional goals based on the
TEKS; 1.23s The beginning teacher
is able to provide students with
opportunities to explore content from
many perspectives.

higher-order thinking where all the students are involved and

engaged with one another leading to new knowledge that lines up the
TEKS in multiple subjects.

This was an activity in which I went with my classmates to

Huntsville State Park and learned various activities to engage my
students in deeper learning. We received a book that is packed with
information and activities that I can use with my students. I also
attended a Science Conference to gain more information on how to
be an effective teacher who thinks outside the box

____/10

I had to creatively think and plan a field trip that would line up with
the Social Study TEKS and could include other subjects. This
particular field trip is a visit to the San Jacinto Battleground and the
Battleship Texas that would enhance what the students were
previously learning in the classroom. This gives the students a variety
of opportunities to explore content from many perspectives. I also
created a Biography Cereal Box of President Reagan, as well as a
Paper Bag Book depicting the State of Texas. Both of these activities
were great examples that give students opportunities to explore
content from various perspectives, and supports stated instructional
goals based on the TEKS. These activities present a variety of
techniques to teach and reinforce learning.

5.
Math: Math Kit,
Mini Lesson

Standard II:
2.3s The beginning teacher is able to
use strategies to ensure that the
classroom environment and
interactions among individuals and
groups within the classroom promote
active engagement in learning. 2.5s
The beginning teacher is able to
ensure that instructional goals and
objectives, activities, classroom
interactions, assessments, and other
elements of the classroom
environment convey high
expectations for student achievement.

The math Kit is a group of activities that can be used in the classroom
to insure and strengthen the goals and objectives in a classroom
environment. This would be used among small group settings, which
encourages interactions and active engagement between the students.
These activities can be hand made and /or purchased from local
teacher supply stores.
