Overview

Implemented a remote/offsite
backup system for Hartnell
Created a better recovery disaster
system that is offsite using a 3-2-1
backup hierarchy,
3 backup copies
2 different locations
1 copy that is offsite.
We had planned to backup and
replicate to three different sites
Technology used: VMWare, Veeam,
Dell hardware, XIOtech SAN

Background
Hartnell had an outdated backup
system that involved tapes and
unconventional techniques for backing
up data. The community college
consists of three sites, Main campus,
Alisal Campus, and King City campus.
They required a new and updated
means of securing rapid backups, and
the ability to retrieve any lost data.

Problem Statement/
Project Objective

Solution Design

Deploy similar disaster recovery

plan to Hartnells third campus at
King City
Ensure that backup and replication
is at optimal speed/rate for highest
throughput
Implement alternative plan for other
universities or organization to use

Assist in the preparation of

Hartnells disaster recovery plan
Help deploy and establish multiple
redundant backups
Learn how to deploy Veeam, a
virtual replication software, to
transfer information and
applications from one virtual server
to another

job currently as tech consultant.

Learn how to install and configure

enterprise servers, VMware ESXi
hosts, SANS, and to test and
configure replication and storage
between multiple locations

Your Approach
We consulted with the contractor
KISCC, they gave us an outline to
follow:
Install and configure servers for
backup migration

The above diagrams show the

network topology at both Hartnell
main and Alisal campuses.

Results

Configure SAN networks that will

backup the virtual machine hosts to
an off-site location

Successful implementation of offsite backup and replication

Create and verify backup plans are

properly working

Alternative plan for other

universities or organizations to use

Once first site is setup correctly,

repeat the same for third site
After receiving the list, we began by
drawing up documentation for each
location. Once we had created a
logical design, we created a physical
plan, we performed the physical
installs

Future Work

Created physical plan from logical

design
