TEACHING STRATEGY: Whole Brain

Teaching
CLASS-YES
Class-yes will be used when you want the class attention. You would simply say, Class and
the students will respond, Yes. However you say Class they will say Yes.
Example: Teacher say: Classity Class Students say: Yessity Yes

HANDS & EYES


Hands and eyes can be used with Class-Yes. When you need them to give you their undivided
attention. You will say Hands and Eyes. They will respond: Hands and Eyes while they
look directly at you and put their hands together in front of them.

TEACH-OK
Teach-ok will be used when you are teaching a lesson. For example, you are teaching
vocabulary and you say the first word and the definition of the word using gestures. Then
you would clap twice (or add humor) and say Teach. The students will copy you by a clap
or gesture and respond with Ok. Then they will turn to their neighbor and continuously
repeat the concept to their partner over and over until the teacher say, Class and they
respond, Yes. (See video on whole brain teaching for a visual).

MIRRORS
You say mirror and your students respond mirror. They then pick up their hands ready to
mimic your gestures.

SWITCH
During teach-ok you will have one person in the pair to teach and the other listening. You will
say, Switch for the pairs to swap teaching and listening.

Follow directions quickly. (Using finger gesture)


Raise your hand for permission to speak. (Using hand gesture)
Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat. (Using hand and finger gesture)
Make smart choices. (Using finger gesture)
Make your dear teacher happy. (Using finger and face gesture)

*When one of these rules are broken, hold up the number of fingers that correlate with the
rule. Example: A student broke rule number 3. The teacher hold up 3 fingers and yell Rule
3 the class will respond all together Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat.

WBT Scoreboard
The teacher and student will set a reasonable reward before class begin. This is what they
will be working toward. These reward can be anything from no homework night, candy, 1
minute party, art outside, special snack etc. If the students have more point than me at the
end the day they will win the reward. Of course if I win, I just win! No punishment towards
them.
*There are other scoreboards like individual and GUFF points.

Whenever they are rewarded a point the will chant Oh Yeah when
the signal is given. Whenever I receive a point they will chant Ahhh.
