According to Hindu Vedic Astrology, the unfavorable position of Planets in the

Mantra’ is a very popular Mantra and is used to please the planets and influence

Navagraha Stotram

"Namah Sooryaya, Chandraya, Mangalaya, Budhaya cha, Guruhu, Shukra,


Shanibhihi cha Rahuve, Ketuve Namaha."

This stotra praises the navagraha’s and is a very popular one. It is believed that by
chanting this stotra, can liberate us from all sins and ill effects that may occur due to
planetary positions.

"Aum brahmaa muraari streepuraantakaari,


Bhaanuh Shashi Bhoomisutau buddhashca,
Gurooshca Shukrah Shani Rahu Ketavah
Sarve graha shaantikara bhavantu."

The meaning is “May Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara along with the 9 planets
bless us with peace.” This is a general mantra and is associated with Lord Brahma
who controls the nine planets. This mantra calls for him and the nine planets to
remove the malefic effects of the nine planets. This mantra should be chanted
minimum 7 times a day.
There are individual mantra’s one can chant on the basis of the day of the week like
Surya (Sun) mantra on Sunday, Chandra (Moon) mantra on Monday, Mangal (Mars)
Mantra on Tuesday, Buddha (Mercury) mantra on Wednesday, Brihaspathi (Jupiter)
mantra on Thursday,Shukra Mantra on Friday and Shani (Saturn) mantra on
Saturday. Rahu and Ketu Mantra’s can be chanted any day but based on timings.

Chanting the mantra and lighting the dhoop in the 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd hour after
sunrise is said to be more beneficial than any other time of the day. One can also

Chandra Dev, as a God, is fair and youthful in appearance. He is


considered wise, peaceful and auspicious. He wears white and carries a mace in one hand
and is seated on a lotus which is carried by a shining white chariot pulled by white
horses. The Moon rules the zodiac sign of Cancer. The gemstone of Moon is Moonstone
and Pearls. The metal representing Moon is silver and direction is northwest. The day
representing Moon is Monday. An afflicted Moon may mean personality disorders,
difficulties in relating to other people and emotional disturbances. In case of afflictions

According to Astrology Mars or Mangal is the planet of power, strength, courage and
aggression. Astrologically Mars is seen as a cruel planet. As a God, Mars is often
described with a red body exemplifying the natural color of the astronomical body in the
sky. Mangal is also a Kshatriya and sits on a ram. He is a handsome youth having a short
stature and four arms, two of which carry a trident and a mace. His build is slender and
appearance youthful and his blood-red eyes burn fiercely. In terms of Marriage the

As a God, Budh is the most intelligent of all. He is a Vaishya by caste


and has four arms and his vehicle is lion. He is the son of Som (Moon) and Tara. He is
extremely learned and has a bright appearance. Saturn and Venus are his friends and
Jupiter and Moon are enemies. Wednesday is the day of Budh and the emerald is his
Gemstone. According to Indian astrology Mercury is the messenger between God and
man. Mercury is referred to as Budh or Buddhi karaka. Mercury is the planet of
intelligence and the IQ of a person depends on the strength of Mercury in the horoscope.
If Mercury is badly placed then health problems could include gastric problems, psychic
diseases, insomnia, nervous breakdown, skin diseases, loss of memory or speech,

Meaning : I bow down to Buddha who is dark and black like a black tulip, matchless in
form of appearance and extraordinarily intelligent and wise being the son of Soma and
endowed with pleasing and auspicious qualities.
According to Hindu mythology Jupiter is considered to be the
teacher of gods or Devas. In Vedic astrology, the planet Jupiter is known as Guru,
Brihaspati and Devagura. As a God Brihaspathi is a handsome youth with a big-bellied
body and a broad chest. Brihaspati is a Brahman by birth and son of Sage Angirasa (and
grandson of Brahma) and Surupa. He is the teacher of Gods and knows the Vedas and is
an expert in all forms of knowledge. Brihaspathi is four armed and wears yellow cloths
and is very fond of sweets. He sits on a lotus and his chariot is pulled by eight yellow
horses.
Afflictions to Guru or Brihaspathi can mean bad luck, loss in litigation, skin problems,
arthritis, heart troubles, impurity of the blood, liver malfunction, diabetes etc. One can
chant the Mantras of Guru in case of afflictions or do other remedies.

Meaning : I bow down to Brihaspathi who is the teacher of Gods ans sages, who is
resplendent and lustrous like burnished gold and who is endowed with a lot of wisdom
and who is the lord of the three worlds.
The planet Venus is known as Sukra in Vedic astrology. According
to Hindu Astrology Shukra or Venus is a part of the nine planets or navagrahas and
considered a benefic planet. In astrology, the planet of Venus is considered to be the guru
of demons. As a God Shukra is the Guru of Asuras. According to Hindu scriptures, he is
the son Sage Bhrigu and his wife Usha. Any type of prosperity is the result of Shukra's
blessing. A broken marriage, ill-repute, excess expenditure, kidney problem, diabetics,
throat infection are the results of Venus in a malignant position. Lord Shukra is pictured
as a fair god. He has four hands, and is seated on a white lotus. Shukracharyas chariot is
pulled by eight flaming horses. In appearance, He is medium-sized with a broad chest,
powerful shoulders and long hands. His curly hair is dark and short. Shukra overflows
with virility and is intelligent, handsome and sensuous. He holds a stick, beads and a
lotus and sometimes a bow and arrow.He is an expert in every form of learning, including

Shanidev is the most feared deity in Hindu Religion. He plays the role
of a judge in human lives and depending on our Karmas reward or punish us. According
to Vedic Astrology Shanaiswar is representation of the Planet Saturn and is a very slow
moving Planet. Saturn is generally known to affect one adversely on occasions when he

In legends the Sun God is portrayed as seated on a chariot drawn by
seven horses. According to Indian Astrology a well-located Sun in horoscope indicates
intelligence, good health, confidence, leadership qualities, courage, strength,

Ketu is the descending lunar node and generally referred to as a


"shadow" planet. Venus and Rahu are its friends, whereas Moon and Mars are its
enemies. Though Ketu is not a Planet it is counted as one of the Navagrahas. The effects
of Ketu are somewhat similar to that of Mars. According to Vedic astrology Ketu is the
representation of karmic collections both good and bad, spirituality and supernatural
influences.

According to Vedic Astrology, Rahu is a shadowy Planet and its effects


are equated with that of Shani by Vedic Astrologers. Though not a Planet Rahu is
counted as one of the navagrahas. Rahu is normally depicted as a dragon head with no
body riding a chariot drawn by eight black horses. When the Rahu is afflicted one faces

Hanuman is a very popular God in Hindu Religion.Hanuman is

Lord Kartikeya or Muruga is one of the most worshipped Gods in


South India, especially Tamilnadu. He is the son of Lord Shiva and Parvati. Kartikeya is
considered as an avatar of Lord Shiva. As per the Legend he was born of the six rays of
light that emerged from the third eye of Lord Shiva. The six rays fell on the forest of reed
grass and was carried to the Ganges by Vayu and Agni which turned to six beautiful
babies on six lotus flowers. The six babies were united into one with six faces and twelve
hands when Parvati held them in her arms. His avatar was to put an end to
Soorapadman’s cruelty. Lord Muruga is worshipped on the 6 day after Diwali on an
occasion called ‘Skanta Sashti’ making the victory over the demons Tarakasura and
Surapadman. It is believed that if one worships Lord Muruga on Friday and fasts on that
day all his wishes will get fulfilled.

Kubera is the god of wealth and son of Sage Vishrava who is the son
of Lord Brahma. Kubera is widely known as the gods appointed guardian of the treasures
of the gods and the nine special treasures of indefinite significance. But he is also the
King of Yakshas and one of the Ashta-Dikpalas, representing the north direction.As the
God of wealth and material, his responsibilities are to distribute them while creating
wealth is with Goddess Lakshmi. Worshiping Goddess Lakshmi and Kubera together

Lord Ganesha , son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, is worshipped by Hindus as the

Goddess Durga is one of the most popular goddesses in

In this Prayer the Devotee addresses Durga as Maa (which means Mother) and tells her
that he does not know any prayer, mantra or any magic summons for Durga. He also
admits his ignorance that he does not know how to meditate on Goddess Durga nor does
he know much about her story and glory or the various postures of Durga. He further says
that he is seeking shelter and protection from Maa Durga as following her command will

person reciting addresses himself as an incompetent and ignorant who only knows that
that if he prays her, she will offer her unconditional help to him and save him from all his

Goddess Lakshmi is one of the most worshipped Deities in Hindu Religion.


Goddess Lakshmi is the consort of Maha Vishnu and because of this marriage she is also
referred to as Maha Lakshmi and the Empress of Satyug. She also married Sri Rama in

Goddess Saraswathi is the consort of Lord Brahma and is the Goddess of

Veena which represents mastery over the physical organs and actions where the veena is

The Mahamrityunjay Mantra dedicated to Lord Shiva is a centuries old
