designed to bring a lesson presentation to an
appropriate conclusion. Used to help students
bring things together in their own minds, to
make sense out of what has just been taught.
Any Questions? No. OK, lets move on is not
closure. Closure is used:
To cue students to the fact that they have
arrived at an important point in the
lesson or the end of a lesson.
To help organize student learning
To help form a coherent picture and to
consolidate.
Differentiation
To modify: If the activity is too advanced for a
child, how will you modify it so that they can be
successful?

Have each student create a family tree using the blank template.
Ask students to share their family trees with the class (voluntarily).

Have students tell the teacher how the lesson could be improved.
Ask students about the new knowledge theyve acquired after the lesson.
Get students general opinion on the family unit lesson.
Make a connection back to their autobiography
Give students family vocabulary crossword handout to do for the
remainder of the class. It is homework if it isnt finished.

To modify: Present vocabularies at a slower pace; ask questions for each

vocabulary for clarifications and understanding.

Generally, teacher (s) will moderately guide all of the activities in the
lesson.

Have students take the six questions quiz on Kahoot!

Go over missed questions in class.

Post Lesson Reflection

1. To what extent were lesson objectives achieved? (Utilize assessment data to justify
your level of achievement)
Many of the students got the answers right on the Kahoot! Quiz. The quiz wasnt meant to be
extremely challenging; rather, it was meant to review what theyve learned. Many of the students
said the quiz was easy and that the lesson in all was not difficult because they knew many of the
terms already. The one question half of them got wrong was the one on sibling. Many of them
had difficulty understanding that the word sibling represents brother and/or sister. Their
misunderstandings were clarified, so, they all should know the term sibling.

2. What changes, omissions, or additions to the lesson would you make if you were to
teach again?
I would definitely change the introduction activity, which was the This is my family song.
Miss Heidi and I initially chose the song not to undermine the students, but, to introduce the
lesson on an upbeat and light note. Id only change it because the students said it was for little
kids. I want to be a teacher that takes my students suggestions into account. In place of the song,
I would find an activity thats more challenging or have an in-depth discussion on what
constitutes a family. Something Id like to add to this lesson is the previous generations, like the
great grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Id also like to spend a little more time discussing the stepfamily members and the in-laws.

3. What do you envision for the next lesson? (Continued practice, reteach content, etc.)
Since students had no problem understanding the vocabularies, Id like to have a mini lesson the
in-laws and step family members. Afterwards, we can move on to a lesson. A new lesson could
be having students choose a member of their family and write a paragraph on why the family
member means so much to them. Or, students can work on autobiographies, like theyre
currently doing in Ms. Wrights class.

Teaching Experience/Lesson Plan

As a class requirement, I co-taught a lesson. The lesson was a Family Unit, and my
co-teacher and I decided to teach a lesson with the members of the family because
we observed that some students had difficulty naming the various members of their
family in English. Below are the necessary documents we used to teach this lesson.
Also included is an assessment of our teaching done by the mentor teacher.
