Fiction.
Set Induction (2 minutes):
1. Teacher will ask students to name their favorite television shows, movies, and books.
Teacher will make a list of these television shows, movies, and books on the Smart
Board. Teacher will ask students if their favorite television shows, movies, and books
contain unbelievable elements. If the television shows, movies, and books contain
unbelievable elements these will be eliminated from the list. The teacher will explain that
today the students will be introduced to Realistic Fiction.
Procedure (55 minutes):
Whole Group
1. Teacher will then ask students what makes the remaining television shows, movies, and
books real. Are the characters believable? Is the plot similar to events that happen in the
daily lives of regular human beings? Is story set in a time and place that could be real?
Level 4 Questions: Analyze
2. Teacher will then inform students that the above features of the story are the features
contained in Realistic Fiction. Teacher will explain to students that Realistic Fiction is a
story that is not real but contains realistic elements. The characters, the story plot, and the
setting are believable because the reader can relate to the characters and issues in the
story.
3. Teacher will go back to the television shows, movies, and books that were eliminated
from the original student preferred list of television shows, movies, and books. Teacher
will focus on each show, movie, and book that was eliminated from the original list and
