AMELIA EARHART

Todays world is a life of freedom for men and women; countless job
opportunities, clothing options, and political/financial voice. Gratitude to Amelia
Earhart, women of this generation are open to more opportunities and aviation
causing a huge new step in our society. Amelia Earhart lived in a time where
womens rights were strictly limited, but she fought to beat the cultural and sexist
norms. Amelias hope for future progress in aviation was not that she would be well
known but, however, that women will share the same endeavors as men more than
they had in the past. Although our society today consists of an immense amount of
inspirational figures, Amelia Earhart is the most influential human of this generation
and has greatly impacted the way our civilization has become.
Amelia Earhart was raised as a typical Kansas girl yet she wasn't the typical
girl; she wore clothes conforming as a guy and participated in many sports while
most girls would learn to knit. Amelia Earhart was born on July 24th, 1887 in
Atchison Kansas. As she grew up with her lack of fund she worked a variety of jobs
to buy her first plane and satisfy her dreams in becoming an aviator. Earhart was a
pioneer in an era where men dominated aviation, through her many achievements
she broke the stereotypes and proved courageous. Earharts ultimate volition was an
attempt to fly across the globe accompanied by Fred Noonan, Earhart and Noonan
both with little knowledge of radio navigation lost contact of with the U.S. coast guard
near Howlard and after was never found. Although Earhart had a tragic
disappearance she left an imprint on our society.
Amelia Earhart showed people that laboring assiduously for your ambitions will get
you to what you desire to do. Amelias friends described her as courageous,

independent and with a strong conscience, she participated in activities that men
typically did for instance driving and playing sports with pride which sparked her
interest aviation. Amelia flaunted her freedom by dressing in what she considered
mens; clothes pants and short hair. This inspired many women to break out of the
accustomed ways of life. Earhart was known for being a woman of 28 jobs and
hoped to have more, she worked as a social worker, assistant photographer and an
international pilot; just three of her jobs helped her fulfill her goal of being financially
independent. With her numerous careers she was able to buy a plane and
accomplish her dreams in aviation. In January 1935 Amelia became the first person
to fly solo across the pacific ocean she was also the second person and first woman
to fly solo across the Atlantic ocean. Earhart received the Distinguished Flying Cross
from the congress, the Cross of Knight of the Legion of Honor from the French
government, and the Gold Medal of the National Geographic Society from President
Hoover. All of her awards brought up the standards for aviation, and directed people
to strive for their goals.
Amelia Earhart believed her achievements could be the change for
women and men to be viewed as equals and have freedom to express also to have
the opportunities that they desired. Earhart was a role model to millions of people
whom she motivated and encouraged woman through her actions, Earhart
encouraged women to hold fast their beliefs, follow their hearts and dare to dream.
She was a womans rights activists and so much more. Earhart fought for
international peace, equality for women and advancement in aviation. She was also
a shining star during the painful recovery from the great depression; Amelia Earhart
inspired America with her courage and determination. While there were so many
influential people trying to recover from the great depression none had as much as

an impact as Amelia Earhart. Her resilient attitude raised Americas disposition.

Furthermore, Amelia Earhart inspired Hillary Clinton to take a political stand. She
mentioned Earhart was an inspiration to America in difficult times as the nation
struggled to emerge from the great depression adding that her legacy can serve as
a model for our country now. Clinton also said in a state department event to
announce the new search she gave people hope and she inspired them to dream
bigger and bolder. This is exhibited when Linda Finch an accomplished pilot and an
aviation historian recreated and completed Earhart her idols last flight as a tribute to
the aviation pioneers spirit and vision. She evidently paved the way for female
aviators.

Amelia Earhart had no desire to

conform to standards and expectations set for her as a woman, she opened many
opportunities for aviation and womens rights she is distinctly the uttermost influential
person in our society.
