Both Germany and U.S. leaders are called presidents.


The Germany leader is Joachim Gauck
The U.S. leader is Barrack Obama
They are both elected
The president of Germany can have two 5 year terms.
The president of the U.S. can have two 4 year terms.
Any German citizen of at least the age of 40 can be president.
They are elected by a committee, not the people.
The U.S. president has to be a naturally born citizen and be at
least 35 years old.

The U.S. law making body is called Congress


The German law making body is called Parliaments.
Germany has a unicameral structure with one chamber.
The U.S. has a bicameral structure with two chambers.
The U.S. has a total of 535 members.
Germany has a total of 667 members.
They both have freedom of speech and religion.
Germany has more strict gun control laws than the U.S.

Political Parties

Germany has a multiparty system.


The U.S. has a two party system.
Germany has two major parties Social Democratic Party and
the Christian Democratic Union. They advocate the
modernization of the economy to meet the demands of the
globalization also the need to address the social needs of
workers and society's disadvantaged.

Elections and Voting

In U.S. and Germany you have to be 18 to vote.


You have to be a naturally born citizen for each.
Germany federal elections are every 4 years.
Germany constitutional elections are every 46 to 48 months.
In the U.S. there's a presidential election every 4 years and
every 2 years for the senate and house of representatives.

Taxes and Government


Finance

They both charge an income tax.


United States spends 19.3 percent of its budget
on military.
Germany spends 3.3 percent on military.
U.S. spends 19.3 percent on health care.
Germany spends 17.9 percent of its budget.
U.S. spends 17.1 percent of its budget on
education.
Germany spends 9.5 percent of its budget.

Law
Germanys prison population is 61,872
U.S. prison population is 2,217,000
Germany does not use the death penalty
it is banned. U.S. does use the death
penalty in some states.
Germanys crime level is 23.57 percent
and USs crime levels are 55.84 percent.

Current Relationship

Since U.S. aided Europe with 13 billion dollars in


economic support to help rebuild European
countries after the end of world war 2 which was
called the Marshall Plan they have had a friendly
relationship. Also the U.S. troops presence in
Germany has made a great relationship
politically, economically, and militarily.
